hey folks, this is my first post.

I own a '96 Park Ave Ultra, white ext with blue leather interior.

Bought the car in 2003 with around 70k miles on it and now have around 205k miles. She'* been a GREAT car.

However, I am having trouble with my interior lights. I'll be driving down the road and all of the interior lights will come on and won't turn off. Sometimes, when they come on, the power locks unlock themselves at the same time. I thinks this problem is also causing a drain on my electrical system because if I don't drive it for a few days, the battery will be dead. If I drive it daily, it usually maintains battery power so it must be a slow draw.

Any ideas? ... I called the Buick dealership and the parts guy told me it could be the Body Control Module.

the bcm controls those things but theres likely a remote reciever module for your keyless it sounds like what happens when you push the button. i would start by trying to find that and see if the wires and connections are good

Sounds like a good place to start. Also check over any grounds for corrosion. Has your car gotten wet? A lot of snow in it during the winter? A faulty ground can cause strange problems.

As for your battery going dead. We have a write up on helping locate that, https://www.gmforum.com/trouble-shooting-test-procedures-141/amp-draw-test-293647/ This should narrow it down, and may also point to what is causing your lights to come on. The problem may, or may not be related.

the thing is ... the power locks don't always activate when the lights come on.

For example, I'll be driving down the road at night .. and all of the interior lights will just come on for no reason. It gets frustrating at night because it'* harder to see out.

I would assume that if the remote receiver were the issue, the power locks would activate every time the lights come on. The locks do activate with the lights, but it'* random.

I love this car, but this is driving me nuts.

If there'* one area I'm weak in, it'* automotive electrical systems. I can do everything else necessary to repair and maintain a vehicle, but electrical problems confuse me for some reason.

I did have a heater core go out right before this problem started. My ex-wife was using the car because I was out of town for 2 months, job related. I remember her telling me that the lights wouldn't go out. Maybe some coolant dripped onto something under the dash and created this problem ??? Possible ???


FYI .. I live in Florida, this car has only seen snow one time that I'm aware of .. and it was light snow. The bottom of this car is flawless. Not a speck of rust anywhere.

maybe something is going on in your door then, maybe you have wires chafing in the door cause there are wires that will do both those things in there

Today, I was driving down the road and the lights came on, no power door lock activation.

About 10 minutes later, the lights went out and the doors locked at the same time.

Strange ... this is.
