Well, I have fixed this situation many times, by replacing the on/off switch in the steering wheel controls......

Drive the car down the road....get above 30 mph.....now press the on/off switch......does it come on briefly and then immediately go out?

If it does, press the on/off switch and hold it.....if the green light now stays on, use your other hand and press the set button......if the cruise now works, release the on/off button in the steering wheel.....if your cruise drops out, the switch is your problem......very easy to replace......need a long pick with a right angle at the end.....slide it by the switch, then rotate the pick so it catches the back, and slowly pull it out.....in some cases, there is not much slack in the harness, so you will just about get it out with enough room to release the locking tab to disconnect it.....attach new one and push it in......when ordering, have to know the color.....

The on/off and set/resume are all in one place, on the multi-function switch. There is nothing on the steering wheel that is connected to any aspect of the cruise control.

I've thought about replacing the MFS. I think that'* my next move before I think about the whole cluster. It'* just strange that cruise works fine once I engage it as does resume and accelerate. I guess there is a chance the light isn't getting the signal from this switch.

What I was describing was concerning cruise control switches, located on the steering wheel........not on a multifunction switch......

Not having a Tech II makes diagnosis tougher......but there are some tests you can do with a multimeter....you can verify operation of the cruise control multifunction switch, by disconnecting the harness to the CC module, and activating each circuit of the switch and check for the proper reading at the harness to the CC module....at terminals A, B, and C....



You can check the TCC/brake switch signal to the CC Module with the multimeter....also power and ground.....



You can check the stop lamp switch, also........as you can see in the third diagram, the cruise light is controlled by the PCM, via serial data......so if the PCM is not receiving the correct inputs, it will disable the CC Module....

Apparently there was an option for Steering Wheel controls, last diagram......yours is the second diagram......

With a multimeter(or test light, preferred), you can check out the circuits to the CC Module.......to check the multifunction switch, disconnect CCM harness....with key on, engine not running, probe terminal A to ground, and operate the on/off switch(if not ok, check fuse circuit)....if ok, leave switch in "on" position and probe term B......when you press set, should have power.....probe term C.....when you press resume, should have power....if you don't have power on all three circuits, bad switch....
