Default EGR-less models

I know that the '92 Bonneville is an EGR-less 3800, but what about the h-bodies that were redesigned the previous year (Buick Park Avenue, for example)? I know that it had the vin L engine, but not sure if they had the EGR or not. Anyone know this one?

I'd heard about the burned valve thing, and that'* actually why I ask the question. I'm looking for another h-bod, and I wanted to know what years I should avoid.

But now that I think about it, I wonder how often these engines actually had problems? If I were to get one of the EGR-less models, what are the chances of having those problems? Do driving habits factor in at all?

Well maybe then I won't dread the EGR-less models so much after all. For some reason, the used car market up here is flooded with '92 h-bodies (at least in comparison to the '93 or '94'*). I'd still like to have something from '93-'94 though. They changed AC refridgerant in '94, didn't they? That would be a good thing for when they need a recharge.

Or... I could just find another '91 or older bonneville. I like the looks of the "first gen" FWD Bonnevilles better for some reason anyway. I think it'* that the rear end on the newer ones doesn't look right without a spoiler, and I don't really like the spoiler either (a pain to wash and wax around).

94 has been way too solid and hassle free than it should have been for what I paid for it.

"Flash featrure"? I've never heard of that. What is it?

The ability of the ECM in your case, PCM in 92 and 93 to 'flash' the PCM codes through the check engine light. It was removed in 1994. You don't need a scantool or a code reader from 87-93 in order to read codes.

Oh, okay. I knew my car could do that; didn't know what it was called. I thought that all years could do that though. I guess we learn something new every day. Code readers are cheap enough I guess that I won't really need to factor that in when looking for a car though.

I had always thought that code readers were for people who didn't know how to short the two terminals. I guess they do have a legit purpose to exist...
