Default 2001 Buick Regal climate control display

I have a weird problem. On my Dad'* Regal, the climate control display sometimes does not work. I took the whole thing apart and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the the solders. I can post pics later.

Sometimes, when you start the car, the display does not come on (so you have no heat/AC). Other times, it works fine.

I think this happens only when the weather is wet. I was thinking of using that spray that dispels moisture but don't know where to use it.

Any ideas on what I should do? With winter coming up, I am concerned that there would be no heat.

Thanks.

It actually won't work or only the display is not lighting up? The display itself is a common issue and can be fixed by reflowing the solder on some flat mount resistors.

It won't work at all. The digital display, button lights, nothing appears. And, sometimes, while driving, it comes back on. At night, though, the night illumination does come on.

I did take it apart couple of times and put it back together. Everything looks fine to me (i.e., solders). Here are some pics:

I am still having this intermittent problem. This is what I have discovered though. When the display does not work, if I put a test light on the climate control fuse (i.e, ground the clip end and touch the probe side to the fuse), the display fires back up within a second. I have done this several times and it always works.

I have very little knowledge of electrical systems. What does this mean, and what do I need to do? I am assuming the circuit is not grounding properly.

Thanks.

Kinda sounds like if testing the fuse makes it work, that it'* time to take out the fuse and ensure it and it'* holder have clean contacts.

Yep, did that already. Replaced the fuse too.

The only other common issue I am aware of with them is that the display won't work. The rest of the functions should be fine. This is fixed by reflowing the solder on the flat mount resistors in your pic.

It seems to me that the circuit is not being grounded properly. When I touch the test light to the power wire (i.e., the fuse), the circuit grounds and the display comes on. What I was thinking was to splice a new wire onto the power wire and ground that. This way, the condition that happens when I use the test light will always be present.

I don't know about electrical systems enough so I don't know if that will cause a problem though. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I got a similar problem to yours, but mine has just 3 lines going across the exterior temperature display and none of the functions work, but the night illumination does work when the lights are on. Same goes with my after market deck i put in my Bonneville usually worked but only the music played and the nigh illumination but there was no display showing the track number, etc.
Im curious if it has anything to do with the climate control as well.

Im going to try what faisalmali did, by messing around with the grounds.

I read your post from dec 2008 about the climate control (a/c and heat) not working on the Buick regal
I have the EXACT same problem...sometimes it works fine, other times it just wont go on..and so u have no ability to turn on heat or a/c..
and then all of a sudden it will come on, for no apparent reason..

I wonder if you ever found a permanent fix to the problem?
Thanks
