well more will than me i forgot the 96-97 have different hose routing than my 98

Chevy82 is correct. I replaced an evaporative purge solenoid a couple of months ago on a car that was making that same noise. That fixed it. They cost about $30.

You did read the whole thread right?
They did not need to replace the purge solenoid, only the soft rubber connector going to it that is like $2.00
