2003 regal random stalling
need help fast, the car has started stalling at random times during the drive to work and home, seems like it just shuts off, restarts with no problems, no ck engine light set or on, doesn't matter if driving straight or turning. bought it used3weeks ago, has 41k on it, changed the cabin and engine filters last weekend, didn't know how long it had been since they were changed put a k&n in, then started having the stalling problem, started out just once, and then during the week more did 3-4 times alone today. been reading some of the posts, going to take out the k&n and see if that helps, and try unplugging the maf sensor and see what happens. did have all the dash lights go on once, but didn't die, just reset the gas and mileage, which came back after 5 seconds or so. love the car,but worried it'* going to die on a turn in traffic!!

I would check battery cables to make sure they are not loose or corroded, as well as all main power lines. The other shot from the hip is the ignition switch. It does sound like an intermittent power interruption however.

ok will look at them tomorrow, when it does happen all the accessories stay on, radio, ac, etc. it'* just like the engine stops and refires right up when you crank the key over, I pop it in neutral, turn the key, pop it in drive and go

The dash lights were one of the big giveaways. Usually, they come on in reaction to a stall, and even then, it'* usually only the engine related ones. The "dash lights all came on but never actually stalled" seems a bit odd too, but would make sense if power dropped, but not long enough for the engine to completely stop.

when it does die out, the lights do come on, but go out when it restarts it almost feels like you took your hand and placed it over the air intake and stopped the air flow,

Get that K&N filter out of there AND clean the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner.....
Also pull the IAC and clean the pintle and passageway........would also be a good idea to clean the throttle plate and bore...
Also with the car running, grab your battery cables at the battery and see if there is any movement that may cause a stall.......grab other harnesses also, and see if their movement causes a stall....I seem to remember a TSB where the wire harness would have a rub through condition against the A/C accumulator....

is there a easy way to get the filter cover off??, does the rubber duct come off the housing, I was able to twist it around enough to get the cover off with a lot of prying and swearing!

If the engine shuts off like you flipped a switch, and once you get pulled over it starts again, chances are the crank shaft position sensor is starting to fail. You will know for sure if it starts to occur more frequently, and re-starting takes more tries.
This is an extremely common failure on the 3.8. There is a write up on the forum on how to change the CPS.
