Glad more of you chipped in, thks for checking this post out.
Frankenstein is lightly said, this is messed up. So heres more, but bfore u jump in to it, id like to say thks for patience for reading all this, as i cannot explain all this mess in a short. lol
Heres where i am at now:
Since i did not touch dash/column and all that in a process of restoring a body and swapping engine, i wasnt sure if i should stick my nose in it but i did because I did re-solder the speedometer resistors (cause mine wasnt showing a mileage and shift positions). I fixed both speedos from 97 and 99 and what i did is used both just in case thinking MAYBE itll help, still it would shut of as described. Then i noticed that when key is all way to start and holding (when all lights go out) i hear a relay click, i traced to to a blinker relay in a dash. When u take it OF, and start a car, u can turn L to R signals and it wont shut of (but course signal itself wont blink along w/park lights), when u put a new or used relay back and do L or R itll shut of as usual and that new relay wont help w/park lights either. So i though what if my turn switch is bad? disconnected that one and used another one from 99 (switch that turns turn signals and other crap on), but it did the same, (so i assumed that i at least illuminated that its bad by testing both, cause i know 99 part car was working for sure), i put back original. Then i switched to 99 headlight switch itself and it didnt do any improvements as well so i left that one in (was tired of switching crap at that second, again i know 99 is working for sure). Then i though: ok, if this crap didnt help, and i already checked (visually) all my wiring before i dropped engine in, all of the engine and lights wires along w/a pack that comes from firewall, i though i am going crazy lol, and thats when another hopeless idea came along. I took both books from 97 and 99 and opened fuse block pages and start comparing, heres the book comparecent ----> http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/...t/1052A77E.jpg
Long story short i found that few fuses do not match or atleast are in a diff locations, i then went and disconnected fuse block next to SC and took all of the 3 pack of wires out to look at its connectors and compare all of them w/once i have taken off w/97 engine. Results: wiring that have injectors and all that which goes to ECU are of identical wires and pin locations, wiring that coming from firewall into a block also identical BUT that which goes around front bumper to supply lights had slight difference in 3 wire locations, so i repositioned them, in hopes that (holly crap, this prob it! all my lights will work as normal and car wont shut off) LOL, MY ***!!! got even more weird. when i put all back and started it, guess what i have speedo and hvac lights and i also have park lights, BUT when i pull switch further to turn lights ON, i got ! nothing, nothing untill i turn hight beams ON, but the hight beams themselves dont go on, regular do, and then off course when i try to turn L or R signals on, it shuts off. Thats when i took about 5min and silently set in a car w/mixture of hysterical laugh/cry whatever as i stared at a huge hammer i had on a shelf thinking i am about to brake that , and in a rage of anger i remembered something: when i bought a car, i had to tow it due to a brake line, and woman told me "the engine was replaced in it, and after that it started to have a strange light problem, my husband can only drive it w/high beams on" and i also remembered that before i tore it down, this is exactly what it was doing, meaning the regular lights will go on when u turn Highs on (I have not tryed test driving the car back then, so i dont even remember turning blinkers on and having it shut off) i went straight into working on it and doing a swap and all the body work. So as i set in it i though, what if by me changing those 3 wires i atleast got a prob to its orig condition, what if it was to shut of w/L or R on, but i just newer tried. Thats when i also said to myself, who said that those who swapped that engine in, left its Original fuse block in it?? and what is the importance of it?? I was hoping it was original box, since after i repositioned 3 wires in one of its blocks i was hoping itll all work. So i called GM dealer and gave him all the numbers i could find on a fuse box and she said that the numbers provided are off of 99 and up, 97 and 98 had a diff fuse block. If any of you still reading, question for you is: would u agree that though they look alike, they are specifically wired from inside of its guts? I though so, so i asked her to talk to someone who she think knows electrical, who btw wasnt confident in his answer but said yes it possible, and u need its orig 97-98 box. So i drove to a junk where i knew 2 regals set and called them to verify if any of those will match and one was a match 97 box which i have infront of me now. It came w/out any fuses/relays since they were all stolen before i got it. So i set down and w97book and one of my blocks i had already and start taking fuses out and plugging into a 97 just as my book would suggest. everything so far seam to be of perfect match except for the one on a link which i point at. It does not have a place to go into, below it is empty slots, unlike on 99 block which it does have a slot to go into --> http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/...t/6925840B.jpg
question for u: book calls it Fuel Pump, speed control -regal, the one below it (identical) is called Fuel Pump. Do i need two of those? or can i run on one?? because in my 97 book it shown as usable meaning if i suppose i had orig 97 block and not one i got today, i should of had a place to plug this into. ( i wonder if a car will start at all)lol. and another difference in a box is behind of it, look at the pic ----> http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/...t/E44331B8.jpg
one i point at is 99 box it have a pin for a connector, one i picked up 97 one today does not (right one), in a wiring i have under the hood, it does have that connector, yet the car i picked this up from didnt. The car was 97 none SC regal and dealer told me his computer shows identical box for none or SC models from 97-98. Question: does anyone of u know exactly what this plug controls? Should i even try starting car w/it unplugged (will it damage anything?), and if i need it, then how do i open the box and transfer the metal element for it to plug into it from 99 box?? My whole point of even getting to the box, is to try to bring back everything to 97, to eliminate Frankenstein and then hope to see that all the weird problems goes away. What do you think?
