A/C Clutch- Metal Shavings & A Rattle !
97PA on the A/C clutch micro sized metal shavings are quite visible.
Some are also showing below on frame rail.
I grabbed the AC pulley to check for any movement & bearing still feels tight.
Once today it sounded a bit of rattling going on and clutch would not engage.
Then let it sit for 15 min and restarted then clutch & air was working again and very cold.
Where are these shavings coming from?
Can the clutch /seals be rebuilt on the OEM compressor?
Can the bearing also be replaced?
I suppose most just buy a remanned complete compressor.
Hate to ask how much a new AC Delco is worth.
I would rather rebuild the one I have... if it can be done???

For my A/C compressor, Autozone has the A/C clutch kit. About $93. Its probably the same for your Park Ave.
I don't know how hard it is, but a special clutch removal tool is needed. Which they also have.

Thanks Mike & Dan! Good to know a new clutch can be installed!
Valuable info regarding the above link and gap. .015 to .030 excellent!
Going to take it to an AC specialist and see what they think. May get 2 opinions & quotes.
It may be possible to install new clutch without removing compressor from car but..will see what they say..

Just came From an A/C shop. NO Power getting to coil on A/C Clutch. Yeiks!
So fuse ok the main relay works but no ground getting to relay. (so he stated)
He made a connector a we put power to clutch and it instantly worked.
Any ideas where to go with this as electrical can get costly. Control units...
Anyone got a wiring diagram from the main temp unit to all the crap that would get to the wires that hook into the coil and what is in between, would be handy.

Just because he "turned" on the A/C, does not mean it will turn the compressor on. The PCM needs to see that the system has enough pressure to actually turn it on. Did he even verify you had pressure in the A/C system?
As far as schematics, I need to know if you have a manual or auto climate control system.

Mike Thanks for reply. It is an auto system with temp controls on steering wheel. With main control located with "Auto" & temps /defrost vents selectable on panel below radio.
Yes he tested for pressure and both high & low are fine. Suddenly tonight it started working again, but it has never really cycled on & off. Seems to just keep running in what ever mode at what ever temperature. The only time it does not run before was when the Off button was depressed. This may indicate a problem with the low pressure switch but we really need to do more testing. If you have a schematic for the 97 series would be awesome. I think he may have access to them somehow online as a pro.
I just hope that it keeps running tomorrow AM so that I can get it back into the shop and let him see the intermittent behavior and how cold the accumulator gets.

Ok, so it does seem the system is at normal pressure to at least click the lower pressure sensor.
Now, these schematics are for a 97 Bonneville, but alot of systems are pretty much the same. Just different looks really lol.
