Default Vinyle top removal

Could somebody please tell me how to remove a vinyle top. It'* not torn or anything like that, I just don't like how it looks. Would it be an easy job or is it something I should leave to the pros?

I'll need someone to back me up on this but I believe if its one of those carrage (fake convertable) tops or a padded vinyl top there is holes in the roof and it is held down that way. So removal of the head liner would be necessary. Then you'll have these holes to contend with. Bummer aint it ? I know what you mean though. I looked at a nice green 88LS that had a tan carrage top and that was the only reason I did not buy it.

BTW I think regular old style vinyle tops look great on the cars of the late 60'* early 70'* and would not be a bad look on a late model 88 either but the carraige top never looked good to me and the padded landau tops were fine on Towncars, DeVilles and NewYorkers and that style car but are gaudy as hell on the sportier FWD cars of the 80'* and 90'*. Still some folks prefered them and bought them.

We replaced the rear window in my dads 1989 Lesabre Limited w/48000 miles and it has the convertable style cloth top. Anyhow, you need to take the screws out between the back doors and the trunk (on quarter panels) and there might be a few inside at the top of the doors.
Be fore-warned though as the top is glued down and to get it to come off without damaging the top will be a big task.
Good Luck,
Stylez

I helped my folks remove a vynil top from one of thier cars once. NASTY job. It leaves tons of padding and glue behind. May as well have the same folks that are going to paint it remove it, because it'* going to need to be painted. To do it yourself, buy lots of Acetone and the appropraite safety gear.
