Thump from right rear
93 PA. I get a thump from the right rear. It'* constant above 20 mph. Steering wheel does not shake. Just came back from tire guy and he says it is not wheel or tire. Mechanic said it must be tire. Braking has no effect.
Any ideas. 130,000 on it.

Assuming the wheel is lugged on evenly, that sure sounds like a belt is weakening in the tire. Switch the two rear tires and see if the sound transfers to the left side.

Switched the rear tires. Sound didnt totally switch over. Seems more even, side-to-side wise. I have been moving tire around like crazy over the last month. Maybe I have two bad tires. Might try a different tire guy. Goodyear Weatherhandler or something like that.

Rotate the tire to the same side on the front, not side to side. Then you will know for sure if it is the tire or not.

Tried a different tire guy. Sears no less! It took him 10 seconds to check all 4 tires. Said two were bad. Two new tires later I'm floating, not thumping, down the road. The need for two explains why I could never really isolate the thump.

I had the same issue and the tire guy told me it'* because I don't rotate my tires. Even though there was very little wear on the rear tires, they were "cupped" and the tire dude claimed that happens because there is no load on those tires.
Not sure if I believe him.
