Default 2005 Buick Terraza air diverter door broken

This winter found out the heat wouldnt turn on on the drivers side of my van. it would just blow cold air. Took it to the dealer, he said the air diverter door is broken, they see it all the time. He said it was $1,000 to fix or they could try to glue it. Most of the time people just bring their cars in and have them wire the door to either the hot or the cold side. I wanted to either switch it myself or try to fix it by rigging something up. Does anyone know how to get to these doors, or has anyone heard of this?
