Default Couple codes..

My CEL is on, and the codes are P0449, P0420 (I have a universal cat now, could that be causing this?), and P0440 (I think.. it'* been a few days since I scanned it, and it might be a while until I can scan them again, unless I set Torque up on my GFs phone..mine has been sent away for repair and the loaner phone can't run torque )

I know that the P0449 is the vent valve solenoid, and apparently is a common problem on the Century. Any idea how hard/expensive it is to replace this?

Thanks guys

Travis

When did you install the cat? If it was recent and the appearance of the P0420 code came up soon after, it definitely can be related to the cat. What cat did you buy?

The cat was installed in October, but I never got it scanned until January. When they installed it, they said it could throw a code, so I just assumed it was that one.

I'm not sure what brand it is. I brought it to Meineke and they didn't say what brand when they installed it. I can look for the receipt from Meineke to see if it does say what one they used.

as far as the vent valve, pretty easy to take apart once you get it off clean out the filter with compressed air, spray a bunch of wd40 in the valve and rig up a couple wires the connector hook one to ground and the other to battery pos. the valve should click if you have the right polarity. i blow through it and activate it a bunch of times respray and repeat. it should block your breath then not. if its stuck you need a new one. i got a new one went bad on my old monte and it only lasted a year then i did this and it lasts alot longer. mine is on the rear inner fender, should be pretty close to the tank because there is a good size line from it to the charcoal canister.

Thanks Justin! I'll take a look at that if it ever stops raining. Hopefully it just needs to be cleaned out.
