Default '96 Regal Hood Latch

Hood won't pop. Cable is working as I can see it move from under the front bumper. I removed the hand pull and used Vice Grips to pull cable. Got under front end and tried to move whatever it is that the cable is pulling; nothing. Tried it with help pushing down on hood; still nothing. I have to get this hood open. What else can I try? Dealer is of no help. Thanks.

Reaching your arm up from below the front bumper is probably your only easy access to it, but then you'd need to know how the latch is oriented to be able to flip the lever with your fingers or some tool. I think the latch on this vehicle is mounted vertically onto a center brace.. not flat on the tie bar or rad support. This will make it harder to reach unless you've got a long arm.

Probably the quickest way would be to cut out a piece of your grille just a little off center towards the driver'* side so you can reach in from the front on the side the cable connects to.

try first have 1 person pull on the cable then you bump the hood on the end with your fist most time it will just pop open then lub up the release catch with some thing besides wd40 like motor cycle chain lub
or in worst case have some one pulling still on cable
and use a plastic tool prying up on hood while still thumping it with your fist
the spring should pop it open then

Thanks guys, but I'm having NO luck with this. The cable is now broken. I have moved this and that and feel that I am close, but I just can't get there. I've pushed, pulled, pried, touched, looked at the mechanism with a mirror and one eye, and cursed. Short of taking this bad boy to the shop I'm stumped. I do not like stuck hoods and jams.

Got it. Had to take the latch loose from car, but damn it, I got it. I was doing everything right in my attempts to pop it, but it was so dry, that even off the car, I had trouble freeing it up. Some cleaner, white grease, and a converted pull cable later, it works better than it has for forever. Thanks for the help.
