'95 Buick from the depths of hell - Part IImany
Hey guys,
I'm sure you're sick of reading of my ongoing troubles by now. Nevertheless, I am extremely appreciate of the service you guys provide to all of us on this forum. I truly cannot wait until I am well-versed enough to (properly) contribute to this forum in a meaningful way. I digress...
My latest issue with the ol' Regal - the car dies immediately upon ignition.
Before I continue, here are some relevant details about the car:
1. 1995 Buick Regal Custom
2. 3800 3.8L Series 1
3. "L27: Model
4. This car ******* hates me
SO, to elaborate:
I replaced the LIM & UIM about 3 weeks ago. I also cleaned the throttle body & MAF, and replaced the IAC and TPS, changed oil, swapped the coolant temp sensor, among other things. Note: The IAC and TPS parts were pulled from a junk yard. However, (at the time), I thought the parts appeared to be almost-new. They don't appear OEM, and had silicone on the connections when I pulled them. (to be referenced later in "my suspicions."
Subsequently to the repairs I added a FULL can of SeaFoam to the gas tank, and filled the tank completely w/ gas. The car ran great (minus some intermittent, and very-slightly-"rough" idling issues), until we got down to about 1/4th tank gas. A few days ago, my GF took the car across town (running fine), went into a store for about 20 minutes, and came back out to a car that immediately died upon starting. Note: Pressing the throttle allows the car to sustain operation.
My suspicions:
1. I immediately suspected the fuel pump, after having read a few issues online about high concentration SF causing issues with the pump & fuel gauge.
1a. When I turn the key to ignition, I CAN definitely hear the fuel pump priming itself. However, here is the weird thing: the pump just doesn't shut off. It continues to pump until the key is pulled. ( Is this normal? Am I stupid? )
2. My second thought is that the TPS and IAC I judged as "new" were in fact old - they were last-case-resorts of the previous owner of the car I pulled them from, and the silicone was applied as a last ditch effort to keep from junking the car.
3. Other suspicions: Ignition coil, spark plugs, vac leak (which I consider unlikely, as I've inspected everything thoroughly).
Please let me know your thoughts, and any additional information I can add to help the process.
Again, thank you guys so much for any help you can offer.
