2003 park avenue air conditioning
When I turn on my AC, the passenger side vents are much colder than the drivers side. Any ideas folks? Thanks a lot. Steve

First thing that comes to mind is the blend door actuators. I know in my 97 PA I had mixed air not just coming from the "mid" dash vents, so there was a loss of air pressure and not that cold either. Long story short, I pretty much had to replace 3 door actuators, to get it working right.
When u turn on the auto setting and lowest temp the air should be on the middle vents only, is that where all your air is coming from for starters?. When on defrost, I also had mixed air on floor, before new actuators were installed.
Chances are the actuator may not be closing outside air so it is not getting as cold as it should. #604111 They look like this: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...parttype,10721
They are located behind glove box near firewall inside.

Thanks for you response. When I turn the AC on auto, it starts out in the mid AND lower setting. It then automatically changes to the mid setting only. When it is at the mid setting, the air flow is equal, but not as cold on the driver side. Eventually the drivers side gets cold, but not always. Steve

Best to have it checked by an AC specialist. If you find the right guy he should be able to put a set of gauges on it and advise if it is low on refrigerant, or if it is a blend door problem. If you can test the actual temperature in the cold vent and post back, that would be helpful. This is about right if AC is in good condition.

The freon comes into the coils on some cars on the side where the air going to the passenger goes through the metal coil that is the evaporator. Then when the freon gets to the part of the coil for the driver'* air, it has already evaporated to a gas.
An empirical check is that in the morning when outside temps are cool, turn the air on cold and keep blower speed low--both vents will be the same because the freon isn't used up cooling the air on the passenger side.
OR you can carefully check the temperature of the metal tubes going into the firewall to the evaporator with the blower speed having run on HIGH for a couple of minutes and the air directed to vents or bilevel. If the tube going into the evaporator is cooler than the one coming out and going to the accumulator (tank on the dash), your freon is low is the most likely solution: the freon is being consumed in the evaporator and has all evaporated so the freon coming out is warmer than the tube going in.
