Air/fuel
OK gentleman I have a 97 lesabre with the 3.8 series 2. I bought it for a couple hundred bucjs. The motor starts rough, idles rough, and has a severe lack of power if u put the throttle to the floor it will putter and die. It will drive down the road but u can only give it very little throttle. If i take of the air box and place my hand halfway over the air intake the car runs great throttle is responsive and no rough idle. I'm basically manually choking the motor which to me means its getting for air than fuel. Any suggestion on how to remedy this. Injectors maybe? Or some sensor? As a side note I have put a new maf, mas, and crankshaft positioning sensor in it.

Well it does not have a check engine light however it does throw a catalyst code p1070 I think that'* the code. I thought maybe the converter was stopped up so I pulled out the front O2 sensor to let the motor breath and didn't help. The only thing I've tried that makes the motor run like it should is to block off half of the air intake hole. It seems like its pulling way too much air. I'm more of a carbureted small block kind of guy, so on a motor like this I don't even know what all controls air fuel.

Sounds good I figured that'* what it was with the catalyst code and āll but I thought for sure opening up that pipe would have at least helped a little bit. But its worth a shot I'll go cut it off later and I'll go from there. Thanks for your time.

Regal Guy, he removed the O2 sensor, and he said it didn't run any better....
P0170 is a lean condition......does he have an intake leak? Exhaust leak skewing the O2 sensor? Fuel pressure problem? O2 sensor problem?
You replaced the MAF.....but does it run better if you disconnect it?

At times it will stall out and will not start again until u let it sit for a while about an hour and then it will start again but you have to butterfly the pedal until the motor picks up

Being he said was a {cat code and not sure so he wrote the wrong code right?} first thing still I would pull back the exhaust pipe about 1 inch and see how it acts.
I mean its 2 bolts how long would it take to check that 10 mins ?
