How it shuts off tells us a lot, sputter is fuel related, so I don't suspect the FPR, but still, pull the vacuum line and smell it. If you smell gas replace the FPR. When a FPR goes out you may see the car die after driving and stopping at a stop sign, it will stall. Also, might notice hard hot starts.
Now, a car that shuts off like a switch was flipped, that'* more electrical. spark simply stops and engine dies. MAF wont do this. I would suspect part of the ignition system. So what can shut the engine down? It'* a short list. Bad ignition system wiring harness, bad ICM, bad cam sensor (not likely) bad crank sensor (this is where my eye is) Have it tested. Does your shop have a oscilloscope? Have them check the wave form. This should be tested both cold, and hot. If there'* a difference the crank sensor is bad.
