With the car in PARK and the KEY in the ON position see if you can move the shift lever without, touching the BRAKE Pedal. It should not move until the pedal is touched! Get back to us!

My climate control numbers flash for a bit when I start my car up too. It did not do that when I originally bought the car, and seems to have started happening around the same time I noticed the dual climate control does not work right. There is a part, I forget what it is called....on the passenger side, up in behind the glove box with a little metal arm and a white plastic piece. Sorry for the bad description. I can adjust that as the seasons change, it was jammed, and now it slides real easy. Does one side of the car run hot while the AC is on, or cold when heat is on for you too? once I got it adjusted right it seems to work fine for me for now. I think I need to take the dash apart to get at that little modulator deal and put a new one in....not sure.

You can verify the torque convert is NOT locking up by driving on a flat road at a steady speed of perhaps 55 with a constant accelerator position. Use your other foot to touch the brake pedal to just lightly apply brakes without slowing down. The torque converter should unlock and the tachometer speed on your dash will increase a couple hundred RPMs. If it is already unlocked, you'll notice no change because you're already running with a slip in the torque converter.
Other than a slight loss in gas mileage at highway speeds you won't notice much difference. If most of your driving is city or suburban, you can get along without it. If you do some highway in 3rd or 4th, you'll lose a little mileage.
It might be just a problem with the solenoid that does the lockup. I do not know if that'* accessible from the pan or from the side. If it'* the pan, it'* not so expensive.

Just curious....can someone tell me what the torque converter clutch does exactly? and what are your rpms at when you get up into the 70-75 mph range? I have had quite a few shifting issues with my 95 limited. But in the end tranny seems in great shape, just lots of other little problems here and there. some threw a code, some didnt. runs like a charm now. And when my car would not go into OD I dropped off a good 8 mpg on the highway.
