It could be a BCM problem or the ignition switch housing is bad. Without the aid of a tech II and the proper service info security problems are hard to properly diagnose. Do the original keys work?

Lost original key
I had recently lost original key but still have the original key fob and that works fine... so I think the the new key and the relearn procedure isn't working properly, because doing that process should have deleted the programming for the key fob. I think... I might have to give up and pay the tow $$$ and the diagnostics$$$ parts and labour$$$$ anybody got an estimate on the work to replace key cylinder?

Posts like a 4 Banger
a chevy dealer recently quoted me about $500 to replace key cylinder for 2001 malibu. I thought this was high given the fact that it is a fairly easy fix on the malibu which has the switch on the dash rather than the stearing column. Prices for the cylinder itself were all over the place on line. Good luck

The pk3 key relearn won't effect your key fob programming. If I remember correctly the 15 min learn is to program a new key if you have a working old key. To start over and learn all new keys I think you need to do the 30min learn. Also do you have a battery charger on it while your doing the procedure because if it drops below 9 volts while trying to relearn it won't take.

Have to agree with Racer on this one.......
If this all started, because the only key was lost, and and there was no previous problem, then it has to be a problem with the programming procedure.......
Since there is no "Master" key, you need to do the 30 minute procedure.....
If you had a master key, it only takes 5 seconds to program a new key.....
As Racer suggested, you should have a DC jumper box on the battery, not a battery charger......
Have all accessories off, apply e-brake so auto lights will not come on and put a load on the system.....
Just turn key to on(do not turn to crank position)......the SECURITY light will come on solid or blink......after 10 minutes, the light should go out.....
Turn key to off, wait 3 seconds and turn to on again...wait 10 minutes and the light should go out......
Turn key to off, wait 3 seconds and turn to on again...wait 10 minutes and the light should go out......
Turn key to off, wait 3 seconds and now attempt to start vehicle.....
If this does not work, and there were no previous problems, there is a possible key problem......however, in some cases, even with the relearn procedure, you might need a Tech II to clear any security codes.....
Like Racer said, without a DC jumper box, over the course of 30 minutes, your battery could drop below 9.6 volts, which could affect programming......
Parker you have PassLock, not PassKey III.....they were quoting you the cost of replacing the PassLock sensor and lock cylinder, and also recoding the cylinder with new tumblers, codes cleared, and then the relearn procedure must be done......500 is high.....ANY GM shop can do the job.....call around for the lowest bidder.....actually, in some cases, it'* easier in the column.....

Found an old plain key (not a PK3) had made back when I had original... The security light does not blink 3x now just lights up for 3 secs with battery 3 secs ... Trying it with that and the PK3 snug up beside it and turned to on position, would that work by any chance or is it it stuck in theft lock mode and not able to read the transponder chip???

Jumper box meaning, a big battery charger. The small 10amp ones are insufficient.

I gave in and had it towed to the dealership for programming!! Costing me $200... That'* not including the expensive tow... I tried the relearn process with the cables hooked up and charged battery, but it good to go now just need to make sure I have some extra sets of keys!!! Thanx anyways!
