Doing a Tune-Up - 1999 Buick Century
I have been considering doing a tune-up to my 1999 Buick Century recently because I feel like it needs it. I was trying to locate the spark plugs on my own and noticed that three of them are on the back side of the engine. After look around on the Internet, I see that you have to tilt the engine forward after unbolting the engine mounts. Is this correct?
Also, I am assuming that to the right of the alternator is the distributor/coil packs. After removing a each wire one by one, three of them had a extreme amount of rust both on the terminal and in the wire housing themselves. How can I clean these up efficiently? I am assuming that that amount of rust would hurt my performance.
Any tips would be extremely helpful. I am considering taking it to a mechanic to have it done but my pockets are already hurting with this car.

The plugs on the back, you might be able to reach after a lot of feeling around and using a couple extensions. I've thought about changing the plugs/wires on mine, and have been waiting for a nice day to get under the hood to see how difficult it is to get at them.
About the coil packs.. you could probably use something like wd40 and a wire brush to get the rust off, depending on how heavy it is. You might be able to just use some sandpaper.

Not sure on the layout of your engine bay. But one of the first things I do is remove the stupid bracket on the rear of the engine that is used to lift the engine out. It'* not really needed. 2 13mm nuts hold this in place. Disconnect the bracket holding the fuel lines on it and remove the whole bracket. Then throw it really far away. Once that is gone, you can reach your plugs much easier.
As for the coils. If they are that rusty, may be best to just replace with new coils and wires. That with new plugs and you will be all set.
