You may have a few things going on there by the sounds of it.
The drivers side mix door actuator may be at fault.
Is the AC compressor engaging (clutch spinning)? when you turn on the AC...
I am sure one of our members can help here as well, I dont have a 95 Riv FSM available.

I believe by being in the vent/econ mode that A/C compressor is off.....
Does this have dual controls?
With dual off, and commanding full hot, you should have 145-150F out of the vents on both sides......if only hot on one side, looks like an actuator/temp door linkage....if not, a control head....

What I am trying to establish is, in econ/vent mode., the compressor is off....and with dual off, by adjusting the temp from cold to hot to cold, the temp should be the same on both sides......in this scenario, the compressor does not come into play because it is not commanded on......so if the temps are not the same, you have to look at that driver'* side actuator, and see if it is moving when commanded......the gears in those actuators are known for stripping....
