First thread-hey guys
Hello everyone, names Rick. I work at an auto shop so I can do atleast a good portion of the testing. Very recently bought a 97 lesabre with 136k, 3800. It'* the second w-body car I've owned from GM, first was an 04 GP with the 3800. Bought this one off cl from an older gentlemen who was intensely in recording the history of the car. Along with it came all the service records on the car down to wiper blades.
So like I said I just bought it, about a week ago, and it just popped up my friend the cel. P0171, now I've been browsing the forums for awhile and I've heard everything from replacing the fuel pump to the battery cables to the PCM grounds being dirty. I was looking through the service records and the MAF was replaced in September. I was just sayin hi and seeing what advice people can give. Thanks!

welcome. just the lean indication is pretty wide open. lots of places where vacuum can leak and give you this code. one that seems common is the vacuum boot that comes from the tb to the purge valve and fpr

What brand of MAF was it replaced with? I've seen lots of problems with the aftermarket sensors. Delphi or AC Delco is the only way to go on engine management parts.

Here is a write up on that code:

MAF sensor and vacuum leaks are the two most likely culprits.

After lookin around at the vacuum lines for a couple minutes I found the rubber connector that tee'* from the throttle body to the fpr and downward toward the radiator has a tear in it and a zip tie to hold it on. So gonna replace the connector tomorrow and see what happens.
