1993 Eighty Eight - Stopped turning over
About a month ago we noticed the radio was being reset each night, sometimes it would not start. You could turn the key off and on a few times then it would turn over. This started to happen more frequently. It got to the point to were I needed to jiggle the battery wires for it to start. Everything looked good on the outside. I discovered that corrosion was built up badly after I pulled the positive wire off. I spent sometime and cleaned it all up and bought a new terminal bolt and I put some dielectric on the connection and it still would not start.
The dash and all the power related items are working in the car but it will not turn over.
The battery is fully charged and tested good. Jump starting will not turn it over either.
I am asking the experts to please help me out so I don't kill this thing when I don't needed to.
Thank you
Steve

if on end of the pos is bad so is the other side and the grounds. you need a good return path for starter to work and also proper charging of the battery

I am going to lift it up and check the connection on the starter.
The battery is 5 months old and I had it checked, it is good.
The yellow security light comes on with the other dash information and then goes off after a few seconds. It will only come back on if I turn the key off and on again.

Sorry all. I was sent out of US for a while.
Ill get under the car next week and check connections.
Martinnhs12: I am not sure of your meaning.
I was told off line that it might be a plug that was slowly coming apart, and that is why the power was intermittent. Problem is what plug and where would it be?
Do we have anyone on this forum who knows the 88 well enough to suggest what plug/* to look for that might have come apart to cause this problem?

i dont know your specific car but, like i said you need to clean the big cables(pos and ground) opposite from the battery because if the battery end was corroded its very likely the other ends are too. the other problem maybe you need to replace the cables if cleaning doesnt work, sometimes the corrosion tracks up into the cable itself.
its definitely not security or FP.

Funny thing is I just did all that on my wife'* 82 Scrambler. Replaced all large cables and cleaned or replaced contact points.
The 88 is much harder to get under compared to my Jeep..
I will work on doing exactly that. I will remove all large cables and replace what needs to be replaced and clean all contact points next week.

I mean that the fuel pump is starting to not function properly. The security light issue has something to do with the key and it'* microchip called the VATS II. When these keys get dirty or moist, they short circuit and cause the security system in the 88 to shut off fuel to all injectors.

Try replacing the terminals on your ECM. that may also be a cause of your engine not turning over. I had that problem earlier with Ol' Roy (my 8.
