Jim my dad just purchased a forest green Aurora with the Sunroof, and im guessing the Autobahn package because on the drivers side sticker it says V rated tires. Theres some things we noticed wrong, like the AC staying on when defrost is on with leg heat, the recirculation is pushed in too far. There are some scratches, and the bottom dash is a little screwed. The engine runs faily well, we had it up to 185 km/h and it was still pulling pretty good, and smooth as hell. You can hear the shock adjustment often when the car is parked. Anyways, just wondering if you know some good maintenence tips for the car, and for the engine also, to prolong life. It is a 1998 with 112,000km on the odometer, he got it for $10,500 cdn with 4 new tires

The a/c is supposed to be on when defrost is on. Most all cars do this, some tell you, some dont. I know that jim had to replace his radiator, and he was doing his shocks, and he needed the ELC compressor... It got pricey.

The A/C coming on with defrost is normal...cooler air is required to defog the glass...its cool no worries. The recirculation...is the button itself is pushed in to far? does it always come on? I seems like it is spring loaded...so maybe something is busted behind the ECC faceplate area.

Good to know your ELC is working...thats normal. Watch for oil consumption, it drinks a litre of oil every 5000kms...Northstars do that. Watch for the oil pan as well...maybe yours has been fixed

The powertrain on these cars is great, the L47 engine is strong and the tranny is fantastic...I would pass on the powertrain coverage. 112K is NOTHING, you got a sweetheart deal, I paid that for my 96 with 18 000 kms more.

common problems: blown headgaskets (HUGE $$$$ to change), fuel pressure regulators (only about $100, cause stalling, surging, hard starts) EGR faliure (stalling, surging at 35mph, noth sure on $), A/C problems, cant think of any more

aurora'* are one of those cars, you can get one with no problems, you can get one with problem after problem after problem. i know all cars are like this, but there seems to be a higher than normal ratio of problem ones. 98 has alot of the bugs worked out though.

Sounds to me like any typical car....As per usual the first year into a model line will have problems. The 95 was laced with mechanical issues and little bugs to hammer out.

I can't imagine blown headgaskets being a major problem on all L47 engines, FPR'* is an easy fix when it happens and all car experience A/C issues...AC is usually the first major "luxury" feature to take a chit on car owners.

My rad needed to be replaced, not because the rad died, but the tranny cooler line into the rad cracked at that joint and could only be replaced, my rear shocks failed due to an ongoing ELC issue, but thats only because of the lousy ELC sensor or sensor arm.

I'm still not convinced that the powertrain warranty on a 98 with so few miles 112 000 kms is only just over 60 000 miles, your money into the warranty will be more then the repairs to any powertrain issues.

Unless you treat it like a damn race car...then...well, we all need extended warranties.

Anyways, we were on the highway today, and we OWNED a GPGT from merging speeds (80 km/h) up to 170 km/h. Like 6 car lengths, got to love the extra 2 cylinders heling you pull after 100 km.h
