Then why don't they list one for any Bonneville 2000 and newer?

Completely sealed except for when the safety valves pop open to release gases. They are better than most batteries due to being sealed. However, during heavy charging, the safety valves can pop open. Will the vents fit on the Optima Red Top?

Now that makes more sense. Every battery produces outgassing. If you seal it completely, it would explode. If they don't have provision for venting the safety valves they can't be used in our cars. Like I said yesterday, their site does not show an application for a 2000 and newer Bonneville.

Thanks for the clarification Jwande.

No, the vents DO NOT fit on an Optima. No way, no how.

The best battery to get is the biggest/baddest one from Auto Zone. Their Duralast Gold with 800 CCA and 1,000 regular amps is a good deal at $130 before core. 3 year free replacement (same as Optima) and 5 years pro-rated. When I just bought a new one for my car, it'* the one I got. It'* made by the same company that makes Optima'* too.

Ouch! My battery was replaced under warranty a couple years ago, so I haven't priced any out for a while.
$130 for a battery! I'm going to have crawl out of my hole once in a while.

I put a red top Optima in a little over 1 year ago. I just modified the vents to work with the Optima vents. I was going to post the part #'* and do a little write-up but baby #2 was born around that time
Here'* a pic I just snapped with my phone (if it loads). I circled the rubber elbows I added (I think they came from the Help! generic parts aisle). I also used some fuel line i had lying around. No issues so far- I check it every so often.....and I haven't noticed any tumors growing out the side of my head!

I'm sorry, but I think that'* just not money wise.

Why buy a $160+ battery, then spend more money to make it work when you can just spend $130 for one that works right away with no extra money, and has the same warranty?

I did the whole thing for about $110-$120 ....the extra 'parts' were maybe $5? I got the battery at Costco over a year ago....I don't know what retail for Optima redtops is these days. YMMV

The battery I bought last spring was a Bosch from Pep Boys, it was $160 with tax & install. It was the only battery they had in that store'* stock that had the right amps and venting.

Whatever you do!!!! Don't get a walmart battery at all!!! My Intrepid is on it'* 3rd battery in 4 years and it'* the Maxx battery and if i let the car sit for more than 3 days in the winters the battery dies!!! The Alt is reading around 12 to 13 volts and these crappy batterys dies every winter!! matter of fact it needs to be replaced now, I took the car to my parents house and my dad drives it sometimes... but im getting it a red top tomorrow!!!
