Just registered and think the site is great. I am wondering what the punch list for my 2005 GXP should be while it is still in warranty. I am close to 15000 miles and already have the intermediate shaft on my list. Is there a wiring harness upgrade for the fog lamps? Anything else extremely common?

The headlights will dim and then recover after about five minutes of running. The dealership said they could not find anything. I had all accesories off and it still happens. Any thoughts?

Never heard that particular problem Eric but the GXP has some electrical quirks for sure. The fog lamp issue is in a TSB. Most of them are on the 2nd page of the thread named General Northsatr Info at the top of this section. I have found out since the TSB came out some of the later GXP'* came out with the new harness so check with your Dealer for your date of manufacturer and the date cutoff for the old style harness. The lamp bases go bad as well due to leakage Lolve my car but what a pain............If you dont have an extended warranty, I would buy one if You can still get it. It will be money well spent.

My headlights dim on my 2005, but I always thought it was random. I'll try to pay closer attention. It'* certainly more noticeable with the short day. It'* almost the reverse of flashing your brights.

It seems like a heavy draw electrical device is starting up... like an air pump?

I can hear the pump start and stop before the dimming occurrs. I originally thought it was the AC, but it happens when the climate controll is off as well.

As far as the fog lamps. I don't really use them because they are always on. I have had other Pontiac vechiles that only turn on the fog lamps when the actual headlights come on. This car has them run with day lights as well.

The headlight thing happens to me But it also happend to my mom'* 05 Venture... i have never really thought much about it.

My lights dim also, I have gotten used to it though. I just had my Fog Light harness replaced. The 1st TSB was for cars produced before 5/05. I was told that there is an updated one out now.

John...What about the ground strap you found on yours? Could the battery ground/ground strap be a possible for this issue?

Bill i've mentioned the ground strap issue alot of times and with all the computerized functions in the newer cars anything is possible. All GXP Owners should just look at the little pathetic ground lug GM bolted right to a painted surface. I dont think it has to do with this issue though because I myself experience something sorta of like what the others are saying. I have been trying to research this issue to an extent because I could swear I have seen my daytime running lights Dim/ get brighter like going into and out of the car wash during the day. I have a feeling that the daytime running lights work at lower amperage level than when it gets dark and maybe this is what other owners are seeing.I havent been able to find if this is a feature or how it works or if this is an inherent anomaly in the circuits. All I know is yes my lights on low fluctuate during the day.

I don't understand this but I've seen several different people write this as well. If you turn the fog light button off, they should stay off regardless of whether the headlights and/or DRLs are on. Otherwise you would be running with the interior lights on as well. On my GXP, the auto on/off will kick the headlamps on but not the fogs if the fog light switch is off. The only time the fogs come on "automatically" is if I had them on the last time I ran the car. There is a memory function to the fog switch. Short answer - turn the fog switch off before turning off the ignition. I think the problem is that there are two ways to activate the fog/parking lights, 1) by turning your light switch to half stop and using the fog button -OR- 2) leaving your light switch off and just pushing the fog light button. Pulling fuse 30 to disable the DRLs has no effect on this system.

Or do you mean that you can operate the fogs without the headlamps being on? If the latter I would think that is a benefit. Its highly annoying in Chyslers and Toyotas (among others) that the headlamps HAVE to be on before the fogs will work.

Also, I had the fog lamp forward harness replaced at the dealer and the bulb blew again. I replaced the bulb myself (a real treat) just to check it out and it hasn't blown since (+3 weeks). So, at least for now, the fix for the fog light problem works.

As for DRLs yes they will dim and brighten at what seems to be random moments. This is why I diasbled them on my SSE and my GXP. I've looked into this alot and have decided against having them for this reason (and many others). The light sensor system that GM uses is WAAAAY too sensitive. This is not just a Bonnie or GXP problem. If you want to stop this problem, pull the DRL fuse, but be warned that you will not have DRLs (which is a plus in my opinion, but other people strongly like them).

You can operate the fog ;lights independent of the headlights, and my fogs dont come on with the DRL circuit unless the fog button is on.
