I'm at 14,000 miles. A couple times my GXP wouldn't start. Today it wouldn't turn over at all and there was an electrical/mechanical clatter (like an old Ford starter solenoid when the battery was almost dead). I kept trying, and then I lost all power completely, even the dome light and idiot lights. Waited about 5-10 seconds, and the power returned. Repeated this a few times and then it started. Took it staight to the dealer and was able to repeat the problem for the service writer.

A weird thing is that after I got it started today, the volt meter stopped wiggling (see other thread).

It sure has been acting like a there'* a bad connection somewhere. Someone here mentioned a possible bad connection under the seat near the battery.

Well, we'll see what the dealer does.

I have the volt meter wiggle too. I was told that was normal so I will be interested to see what they discover with yours!

1. what'* the condition of your battery?
2.check the battery terminals for corrosion that has been the cause of quite a few problems around here. why you're there inspect the battery for any sign of acid leaking either from the vent tubes or in particular the POS. post its self.
3.you may also check the POS. going to the fuse pannel under the back seat and the one going to the under hood fuse panel.
4. you may also like to check how tightly the fuse for the starter is seated in its slot.

Since I'm still under warranty, I'm going to let the dealer take a stab at it first.

Interesting. They apparently changed out my instrument cluster.... no questions asked. It was still wiggling until the day I took it in this time, then it was rock solid.

My 2005 didnt have the wiggle problem at all. I would expect the dealer to say its normal... As long as it works right?

I just picked it up from the dealer and drove the 2 miles home. Volt gage is steady and the voltage actually seems a liiitle bit higher. I'll let you know how it holds up.

They replaced the battery, battery bolt (terminal?), and vent tube. The gage cluster probably never needed to be replaced.

I should have guessed... Many years ago, my 89 Bonneville had a probem where it ran really bad at idle and sometimes died. Since cars have gone to fuel injection and electronic controls; they start so easy that other electrical symptoms tend to show up before the traditional dead battery. The 89 had a bad battery also, but it started every time. The dealer had it twice before I had the battery replaced on my own. Sometimes I never learn.

What the heck! A bum battery on an 05? Hmmm.....While I suppose that you could have gotten a "bad" one, it almost seems fishy to me.... my battery lasted nearly 7 years (just replaced it...it'* under the backseat as well).

I'm wondering if the bad battery is only the result of a bigger problem... what caused the battery to go bad? Is something putting a slow drain on it? Hmmmm....

I have seen new batterys fail for no reason many times. At least the dealer solved the problem...well this one anyway.

Well, we have our fingers crossed.
I suppose the battery could have gone bad from non-use. I bought the car car new well after the end of production. It could have been sitting on dealerlots for over a year.
