4.0 Northstar. 250 HP, 275lb ft i think?

Radiator issues are common i believe. Jim W'* done the whole brake system almost, he'll be able to comment.

the 97 will have the 250 horsepower, 260 ft-lbs of torque 4.0L V8 engine. An aurora is as expensive to fix as a Cadillac, but you also get many of the same options and ammenities as a Cadillac. check out the aurora club of north america site! They can answer your questions a little more indepth.

They run hot because aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat, it heats up and cools down rather quickly, however the car is smart and has a lot of backup safety features in the event of cooling system failure.

They are expensive to maintain when they do break. Common problems on the Classic is the WSS and FPR. By 97 they had the leaky oil pan issues fixed.

And ya, its a 250HP, 260 TQ 32V DOHC V8 engine, mounted to pretty smart and dependable 4T80E transmission.[/img]

the car isn't to smart, mine overheated when my radiator went bad. they dont shut down into 4 cyl until its well into the red. problem is, when it was running, it wasn't in the red, but when i shut if off because it went into the so called protect, then turned it on (not start) it was deep in the red, pegged. i replaced the radiator, and sold it (was for sale already) soon after the head gasket blew, within about 3 weeks.

alot of aluminum engines dont get as hot as aurora'* run normally, its the lack of a real grille, fans not turning on soon enough, and other poorly designed things. mine always ran hot, like 215-220 if it was hot.

Personal experiences aside Mikey, I'm simply refering to the engineered intent of the engine and its own protective systems. The design of the engine and cooling system was designed to be "smart", something any potential buyer should know.

Each vehicle is going to have its own problems. For the record and back to personal experiences...I havent had any of the issues with my car as you have described.

Several Oldsmobile models dont have a "real" grille.

Also, aluminum as a metal distributes heat thru itself better then cast iron, hot spots and cold spots are not present as in cast iron. All aluminum is a preferred engine block material, granted the cooling system operates properly

thats what im saying, its "intended" to work, but it doesn't really. thats more important for a consumer to know, 1st hand experience, vs gm propoganda. dont get me wrong, i loved my aurora, i didnt have much break on it for how long i had it. i did fall apart in MANY ways after i sold it.

also, i was told it had starter interrupt. well one day i was curious if it worked, nope, it grinded.

I've had no overheating problems with my '99... really no problems at all for that matter. I bought mine used at 53k in July 2004, and now have 71k.

As Custom88 mentioned, you'll feel like you're driving a Cadillac. The Aurora interior and other options are unmatched by any other domestic model IMO.

What is the mileage on the '97 you're looking at?
