Redesigned Fog Lamps for 05 GXP.
My car was at the dealer today for a service. While I was there I mentioned that the fog lamps have been going out at a rather frequent rate. The service manager called me in work later to let me know they ordered parts for my car? "For what, it was a service".
The mechanic had noticed the steering was clunking (my wife noticed this but I never did) so they are replacing the intermediate shaft, and also they are replacing the fog lamp modules. Seems they have a different housing for the lamps that will keep moisture out and will replace them if noted as faulty.
So, if you are having a problem with them, there is a permanent fix. You just need to contact the dealer.

Two common problems. Steering shaft it sounds like. Ummm as for the fog lamps my 2005 SLE has them as well. FYI they were designed for the 04 GXP and used them on the 2005 GXP and SLE.

Bill sorry to sound dumb but... I guess they were redesigned on the 04 GXP... Then used on the SLE and GXP in 05. Isn't that redesign for whats on the 00-05 SE'* and 00-04 SLE'* and SSEi'*? I knew all 00 and up Bonn'* had fog lamps man. Maybe I don't understand the question sorry.

Sorry to say, but the service manager make an error. He didn't mean they were replacing the whole module, but rather just the bulb in the lamp. Pontiac has adressed the issue of the fog lamp by replacing the burned out bulbs with a moisture resilient bulb, hopefully lasting longer then the OEM bulbs.
Not the greatest fix in the world, IMO.

Thats not a fix, something els has to be wrong then the buld. not this many bulbs could be bad. Probably they didnt figure people would drive during the day with them on and misjudged the wire size, when did shaft go bad

GXP rules milage does vary a great bit car to car... Ummm I have signs of mine going at 8500 miles and yes I do drive mine a lil harder than most. She puts up with it tho. Mine hasn't gone yet but I can here the noise. Some last 70K and some less than 5K have been reported around here. All you can do is relube them and GM may come out with a new shaft to tottaly fix the problem at least I hope. :?

My moms is still good at 4100 miles. Her car was a demo for the dealership ower ( a 77 year old guy) he ordered the car as his demo and no one drove it except for him. My mom drives about 100 miles a week, so this issue may take awhile to surface. She is definitly getting an extended warranty on this car.
