Fact is this car has the proper RPO code for a roof. weather the roof failed or not who knows... solaire does produce OEM roofs for GM, Ford and Chrysler aswell as other companies...

I don't believe that this is a problem that would have to be disclosed at time of sale.
Buyer beware i guess its not like your stuck with it take it to another dealer and have the rep look at it....

I didn't buy the car from a GM dealership, I'm just trying to figure out if it'* covered under the factory warranty and how loud should I b##ch. If they see the headliner was removed and messed with (maybe to install the remote starter antenna or maybe to service a leaking sunroof) will they try to deny warranty work. I foresee a strange meeting with my local Pontiac dealer.

it shouldnt matter where you bought it take it to a dealer you TRUST... and show the service rep. better yet have them look up where the car was originally sold if its close pay them a visit. Dealers can not change RPO codes your car came equipped with a roof plain and simple it is covered under warranty

Buyer beware
I agree and this is the real problem. Alot of work goes into keeping just this sort of thing quiet. I nearly purchased a GXP that had a bad HUD. It barely moved and the dealer said something like " the new ones don't go up and down as far as in your 96". They will say or hide anything to sell a car.

I stick to my original thought that the roof is not original to the car, especially after seeing the updated photo with the Solaire badge.

solaire does produce OEM roofs for GM
Maybe they do, but this particular roof looks after factory, of course, from what I can see from the photos. The switch is the key that makes me think this.

Or there is the possibility that the roof and mechanism are factory and it was just the switch that failed. I could easily see someone breaking off the switch do to the dual rocker/slider design. It took me a day to figure it out. I'm less inclined to think this the case, tho, after seeing the Solaire badge.

Does any other GXP owner with factory roof have the Solaire badge?

you hit it there i think thats the issue the switch was changed out
as stated on page 1

I ran a GM VIS report for warranty work and it came up with nothing except a $26.00 electrical component when the car had 197 miles on it.

BINGO
and it looks awful because they hacked it up to install a switch that MASS or what ever contractor they use to install it instead of ordering a factory switch like yours.

If you are under 36k miles and 3 years its covered by factory. Otherwise, you have to get your contract for the extended warranty

And as to how loud to bitch, VERY loud.

No sunroof on my 2005 GXP, and I'm fine with that.

Well I haven't been able to bring the car to a dealer because of an aftermarket remote starter issue that I'm trying to resolve before I take it in (see other posts). The headliner and sunroof controls are really screwed up and need to be fix (or replaced really), but there is an aftermarket antenna for the starter sticking out behind the review mirror. Soooooo.. the dealer is going to say "we won't fix your headliner or sunroof controls under warranty because someone else took them apart to install this antenna thingy". I also realized that the headliner was pulled back and bent to tint the rear window. I think the aftermarket shops actually screwed up the headliner and maplight assembly. But that doesn't explain the sunroof switch question. Or does it?? So after I get the car inspected and get plates on it, I will take it to the dealer for steering clunk, trunk full of water, and hopefully I will be able to determine the sunroof'* quality of operation by then. It snowed today, rats. I would like the headliner and roof switch redone, but of course I don't want to pay for it. I don't know if the sunroof really leaks or just the trunk, but spring rain is coming... The sunroof switch seems to stick and act funny. One time it took several tries to get it to work at all.

That switch is definately a mystery. The trunk leak isnt. Mine leaks just from the not realizing the seal has been nudged in at the top.....agravating. I know of another member who'* trunk leaked because the factory failed to put a rubber washer on one of the spoiler bolts.
