Default OnStar

Anyone know about the OnStar system installed in the 2004 GXP?

I got some info that talked about analog OnStar service being discontinued in 2008. The OnStar website talks about three configurations: analog, digital ready and digital. If you have a digital system, no worries. Digital ready can be upgraded. The analog system owners are $&!@ out of luck.

Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.

I know the 03 bonnies are analog but can be upgraded for 3 years prepaid service. If the 04s are analog also, Im sure they can be upgraded. I have contacted onstar before about that.

Well I do know that 04+ is Digital...plus they got that new service where you get like a weekly e-mail on how your car is doing and such..

but can't the analogs be replaced with digital?

Not all of the analogs can be upgraded only certain versions. The onstar advisor had to check and make sure that mine could be upgraded. Also my car receives the onstar diagonstic checks too, but its only once a month. Its a free service with any onstar plan.

For the money onstar charges they should upgrade people for free. I guess its a major ordeal to do.

Is it an actual hardware upgrade or software?

I pretty sure if my 03 is upgradeable that the 04 is also, but you can always contact onstar and ask them. I was seeing if I could get my cars onstar phone added to my verizon wireless plan but they said only if its digital and thats when they checked for me.

That part I don't know but they did say I would have to prepay for 3 years and then take my car into a GM dealership to have it upgraded.
