Northstar Engine Issues
I bought this GXP new in 2004 and have had some issues with the engine. At about 75K kms the engine oil cooler lines both started leaking. Had them replaced and even got GM to offer up 50% of the bill even though warranty ran out at 60K.
This week, I found a coolant leak by putting a dye in the coolant. The GM garage is suggesting they have to replace the gaskets on the water pump which will cost about $300 for parts and $600 for labour. I am trying to get some warranty for this repair as well.
I would love to hear from any of you if you have had similar experiences.

Well...
I'm on my third set of oil cooler lines. I have 58,000 km currently and these are leaking as well :? I have also had my transmission cooler lines replaced along with my water pump due to a leak. I have had the electronic compass module, a door seal and a water deflector in one of the front doors replaced. There may be a couple of other things as well.
I really like my car but it hasn't been without some issues.
A mechanic friend of mine says "It wouldn't be a GM if it didn't leak". On the other hand, he also commented that "...at least they alway start!"

Thanks for the reply, I shouldn't be feeling sorry for myself I guess.
I hope you were able to get warranty for all the repairs so far.
Have you had any issues with the steering column clunking? I have had this one taken apart twice.
The first time the steering shaft was re-lubricated (packed with grease) at about 30K and then around 60K, they replaced the shaft. I had read that there were numerous issues with this problem in many GM vehicles.

Steering clunk 2005 GXP
I've has my steering colum greased and then replaced, and now it'* clunking again. The car only has 24,000 miles on it. My 99 Sierra also had the intermediate steering colum replaced twice while under warranty, and now at 138,000 miles I just live with the noise.

Here'* some food for thought,..... I had the IM clunk just start @ 34k miles, the seal on my right passenger airbag/strut gave out, so I put the OEM struts back in till I get the $1400 to replace them. In doing so the front end went to each extreme height wise, and when done guess what. No more clunk!. Do you suppose I redistributed the IM grease by "extending" the shaft it'* full travel?
