Default 04 GXP front motor mount

I took the car to a mechanic to check it out. Things I need to address are:

Brake fluid is black, needs flush.

Wrong coolant mixed in---Green coolant, should be orange Dex-cool.
Though I need to talk to the mechanic, because I've seen some talk about dex-cool making seals leak.

Weak front motor mount---said they should of caught this on inspection. Could possibly put strain on electrical wiring and other parts.

Not sure how you test for a weak motor mount. The dealer said they would look at it.

How big of a job is this?

1st!!!

brake fluid costs 20 bucks and you can do it yourself. go buy some superblue fluid best bang for ya buck. you should be changing it every 3 years regardless.

wrong coolant: don't use DEX. it'* crap GM **** that is overpriced and under functions. as well as it having the chance of major problems. use the stuff the rest of the world uses. gm is not god.

if the MM is weak which is unlikely just grab a new one from a yard. or take it off, gut it out and make your own poly urethane motor mount for the front. to test open hood and have someone go through teh gears. if it moves excessively then you should get it changed...however i doubt it does and if you've never done this before you have no idea how much it'* supposed to move. i wouldn't worry about it. if you are really worried buy one from a yard and replace. people have 15 yr old 200k+ MMs that are worn and 100% original and are fine. the chance of it damaging something electrical is so unlikely it'* not funny as they know(gm) there needs to be play in the wiring as the engine moves it'* not like this is a new concept or anything.

do it all yourself it'* SERIOUSLY easy enough and will save you a few hundred.

oh and your mechanic is a tool. heh get it a tool mechanics use tools...yeah...but seriously he'* a great big tool.

go google dex and class action lawsuit and print it out for him

The GXP mounts are apparently somewhat weak. I had one replaced under warrantee. I got some pretty bad wheelhop on one pass at the track and kept my foot in it, so that probably did it. GXP Vince took his to the track and he ended up with a broken mount as well.

I've been meaning to take a peek at the mount since I will likely be replacing it at some point.

Got to talk to the mechanic myself today. He says the problem with Dex-Cool is that GM says it doesn't need to be changed for 100,000 mi. That is where the problems start.

If you change it every 30,000 there shouldn't be any problems. But he did say there was another brand that other auto makes use that is 100,000 mile coolant that I could put in, but no matter what you should still change at 30,000.

The wires statement was actually from the receptionist.

About the motor mount, there is a slight clunking noise from hard acceleration. He is just looking out for me as he knows this is an issue for the dealer where I bought the car, and
doesnt stand to make any money from it.

I bought an extended warranty which includes motor mounts, but I'm guessing that they have to actually "break".

The dealer is looking at it on monday, will keep you posted.

the car only has 34,000 miles on it

i have a 04 gxp and im actually getting new motor mounts put on my car right now i get a loud click when i shift into drive and neutral.. lucky for me i work at a GM dealer and i get warrenty work done even though i have 56000 miles.. also we had a 04 gxp on the lot that they sold that came back because it needed new mounts.. so im guessing its a common problem.. and to change your brake fluid you need to take it in even if you change the fluid in the master cylinder there is still fluid still in the lines that need to be flushed which is hard to do yourself...

I run under nitrous a bit, but havent had any mount problems yet @ 36 k. Fingers crossed. If the cooolant is now green , I would leave it green. Hope the previous owner flushed the Dex out first and welll. The two are incompatible, and create sludge that sticks everywhere. Considering you cant possibly get all of one color out or what lines the passageways, it cant be good to keep changing back and forth. 04 and 05 GM models are not covered/involved in the class action suits, use different gasket materials, and I have not seen/read of any credible proof that Dex cool is a detriment to later model engines. If you have Dex in an newer engine for 30-40k or more miles, I would be more worried about problems arising with the green reacting to orange residue that is sure to line the passage ways, radiator, and heater cores. I plan to dump my Dex this coming spring just because it will be 3 years old and replace it with all purpose/all compatible antifreeze just because of the price.
