Default September Car and Driver - GXP in camparo

In the September Car and Driver the Bonneville GXP is in a comparison test with the 300c and the Crown Vic. I have not read it yet but the C wins with the GXP coming in second.

Yeah,...the GXP ran a 0-60 in 6.9 secs and a 1/4 mile in 15.4 at 91mph and the 300C hemi ran a 0-60 in 5.9 secs and the 1/4 mile in 14,4 secs at 99mph[somewhat slower than the original testing by C&D in may,04 of 5.3 secs and 13.9secs at 102mph].........but the GXP has the highest top end,141 mph(drag limited),compared to the 130mph(governed) of the 300C[and the 108mph(governed)of the 'police package'Crown Vic.[BTW the C&D first test of the 2000 Bonneville SSEi in Nov,'99 had a 0-60 time of 7.5 secs and the 1/4 mile time of 15.8 at 90mph]

Car and Driver'* times probably aren't too accurate. I can see the GXP running a faster quarter than that.

I thought there'd be a LOT more posts and reads on a feature-article on the GXP'* first road test by a major car mag?!?
All in all 'Car & Drive'r didn't have a whole lot of good to say about the GXP,other than the slick Stabilitrak system, which is "a better safety stategy than a bag full of airbags".......and that it felt better driving than the Crown Vic in every situation,"something of a feat for a nose-heavy front-driver"......

Car and Driver hates GM for some reason. They always find ways to make it sound so bad, and praise all the Euro or Asian engineered cars. The 300C is engineered by Benz, so obviously C&D loves it.

I don't see anything wrong with the GXP. I saw and sat in it at the Auto Show. The interior was very nice (so what if its plastic), and seats were comfortable. And it has an engine that will probably last nearly forever.

C&D uses the plastic interior excuse, and the "overpriced" excuse to make it look bad.

Even though the 300C is faster, the GXP is one hell of a good looking car.

The GXP is by far the best looking car of the three, IMO. The rear of the 300 looks like a Neon. And look closely at the ratings. They mention the GXP has a spacious rear seat, and the 300 is wanting for space back there, but the 300 got a 5, the GXP got a 3. They say it'* rated accoring to measurements, but the headroom and high "beltline" of the 300 make its numbers decieving, but they still gave it a five. They said it needs more back seat space, then gave it a perfect score in that catagory. They need to work on their ratings.

Then, the GXP has more power and torque than the Mercury. The GXP got a 7 for engine output, the Mercury got an 8. Explain that one to me.

I personally think its just C&D'* bias toward non-GM products.

I agree with you there Sol....
But I do feel GM (esp Ponitac) needs to step up the performance in their cars. The GXP is a step in the right direction, but I still feel they are more then a few steps behind the market.

True. They need to get away from the FWD platforms. Having a 5 spd. RWD Bonneville with a V8 would really take the market.
