Default 2004 GXP Paint Problem

had mine four months 4200 miles car runs great ,is fun to drive. I am getting about 18 mpg. I have a terrible paint job, car is midnight blue and when it is clean (alwas) the paint is blochy, you can see the primer on the edges all over the car -why they used a light primer on a dark car who knows. Not having much luck with the factory even after I explained to them i have purchased five new gms in the last six years. I am having pictures taken and will post them. VERY UNHAPPY :( :(

I also have '04 dark blue GXP (purchased back in May). I have EXACTLY the same paint issues that you have described! In direct sunlight you can see each pass the spray gun made when painting it (dark lines/light lines in horizontal passes). Then the tier 1 supplier parts (like door handles & fascia) are consistently darker than the rest of the car. The car looks beautiful in everything but direct sunlight. But then it really does look like a Maaco paint job!

Good luck on getting some response from GM!

I also have the same problem with mine as well. Mine does not appear to be as bad as the others. The problem is only on the doors. All four doors are lighter than the rest of the car. I have a friend who is an expert at detailing and he said it looks to him that the paint is just thin on the doors. It is only noticable in direct bright sunlight. I can't believe quality control is so bad on these. I am going to give the customer relations manager a call tomorrow and see what'* up. I am going to get the car detailed this weekend and I am going to try and get some pics of the problem.

I only have the problem on the trunk lid on the bottom side that meets the rear bumper. You can see it only if you pop the trunk and look at it from eye level. The rest of the paint is fairly decent(I have the dark metallic blue also). I am going to post some pics as soon as I figure out how to do it on this website. :?

Default Bad Paint GXP

Tried the Assistance center, won,t let me talk to a manager and said file is closed. I tried to bring the car back to the dealer (in NY you must let them have three tries to fix before you can apply to the lemon law) and was told by service manager GM would not let them write it up a second time.

Can you buy cars with no paint and have it painted your own way? lol, I mean like special ordered with maybe just some primer on it so that you can take it somewhere and have it custom painted.
