steering goes out on hard turns
Anyone having problems with the steering going out on hard right/left turns??? This happened to me last night. I was turning into a parking lot and it felt like the car died and I had manual steering, real hard to turn, but stange thing was the car did not die and after a few seconds the pwr steering came back and began steering as normal again. The fluid level is full, belt is new. Could the pump be at fault??? Any suggestions would be appreciated. The car has 56,000 miles.
Thanks,
Chad

Check the power steering fluid and see you notice any metal flakes in it.
When you turn the wheel, do you here any winning or whirring noises? How about when you come to a hard left or right dead stop?

No metal at all. Bright red fluid. The only noise it make is a small whinning nosie when you turn the wheel all the way to the left or right. Nothing out of the ordinary when you come to a hard stop.

Bright red? Are you checking the transmission or the power steering pump. I have a picture of that someplace.

If it was an isolated incident, just in hard turns, the hard sharp turn could have affected torque steering. There is a Yaw sensor under the car that helps StabilTrack. When the car thinks it is going into a slide, it will stiffen steering heavily. Especially if it thinks you are over correcting. If it only happens under this kind of hard turn condition, it is more likely a system anomaly than a defective part.
