Need help finding an axle
I have an 04 GXP, if ya couldn't tell by my name. Anyways, my drivers side axle shattered at the cv joint and I need to get a new one. So I removed the old one, went to Auto Zone and got a reman'd one. I installed it, and it'* too short. The Dduralast one that they have listed which is the same # as the V6, isn't the right one for our cars. So the I called NAPA and they have a new one for 55 bucks. I am not sure if I trust that since that seems kinda low to me. Where can I get the right size axle that doesn't require me to go to GM? Thanks.

I really don't wanna start checking junkyards and getting an old used axle with who knows how many miles, and no warranty. Thanks I appericate the input though. I'm intrested in a new or reman'd one.

I have had trouble at Autozone and Advance with their catalog database. But never at NAPA. Just ask them to make sure the part isn't the same as listed for the 3800 to make sure. A good practice wherever you go in regards to the GXP. $55-60 is actually about right.

I'd also get a NAPA axle as previously recommended.
I've seen broken axles before. A bit of wheel hop at the track will take out an axle pretty quickly. I saw it happen to a Cobalt SS.

I'd say that also depends on the amount of power you're putting down. I abused the living hell out of my 3800 axles for 165k miles and never had a single problem. I would still be using those same axles if I wasn't getting an engine swap done.

And the roads you use most the time. I have replaced two CV'* in 3800 powered vehicles. My wife'* 91 LeSabre never saw hard abuse. The 92 ParkAve I drove needs no further explanation......
