Default GM Warranty Offer on the Anti Christ Bonneville

Hi all,

I wanted to get some opinions from some of the members.

In June 2005 I purchased a brand new 2004 GXP. I got a really good deal on it because it had sat on the lot for a year.

Since I have taken possession of the car I have had the following problems:

-Intermediate Shaft
-Foglamps that keep burning out
-Trunk Springs shattered
-Gear shift lever button broke and popped out
-Rear Integration Module Replaced (Air compressor would not function)
-Door Relay replaced (interior lights would not come on at night when rear drivers side door was opened)
-Windshield was not installed properly (one side stuck up)
-Passenger door was installed crooked
-Headlights were never aimed properly (They have been aligned properly now)
-Leather on driver side seat cracked near head rest
-Paint on GXP door emblams peeled off (both were replaced)
-HUD Vibrations - Still not corrected

As you can imagine I am not very impressed after 10 months of owning this car.

I started at the dealership where they told me "That is what warranty is for"

I then wrote a letter (47 pages including diagrams - receipts, TSB'* etc) to GM Canada and the Regional service manager. I requested they buy back the car.

Today they offered me 5 year 120 km GMPP Total warranty with $100 deductible. They asked me if that would be okay. I havent signed anything yet.

Should I accept this or does anyone think I should look at hiring legal counsel and try to get them to buy it back?? Any suggestions.

I bought that extended top level warranty when I got my 05 (and after hearing all thats going wrong ...glad ) And if I were you I'd ****** that deal.... You cant sue. Every car manufacturer has design and production problems and as long as they remedy these things as they come up ( and their only obligated for warranty period)
You have no basis for a suit. Apperently your very documented problems have brought you enough attention that their offering you an olive branch. Take it cause they really only have to fix isses as they come up, I think a nearly 2 grand gift is nothing to speculate about. Take it and run.

maybe ask for no deductable, but otherwise seems fair. if you continue to have issues, get it fixed and thensell it yourself. make sure that warrenty is transferrable

I tried that 0 deductable route already and I was told GM no longer offers it.

As far as law suit goes, I was asking because the dealers keep telling me the HUD is normal, and "its not a big deal". I guess I will have to push on these issues until they are corrected.

One HUGE bonus is this website. Without all the input and problems discussed, I dont think I would have gotten as far as I did. The regional manager kind of looked at me stunned when I was giving him examples of the same problems

Thanks to everyone who adds input, and solutions to problems and their experiences!!

I still love the car, but am just sick of being at the dealership. All the staff know me by name. I have my own personal service advisor. Its been interesting.

I really dont know, possibly they ran out of the new harnesses ??? Going to get the house in order, prime myself with a beer or two and some unlucky soul at the Dealers gonna answer the phone call from hell. I was distracted getting ready for show, didnt get my new plugs in, or the harness, and almost blew a hole thru the pistons with a predetonation.

I'm gonna skin Goober and Gomer Goodwrentch.

I feel for you for having all of those problems. How happy are you with the car otherwise? Regarding the extended warranty, I would take it, as most of your problems have something to do with alignments, or settings rather than critical mechanical malfunctions (other than the steering shaft). I find it very refreshing that they've offered you this gift. Buying it back would have been out of the question if I was GM since you didn't really suffer any great mechanical troubles, (other than the obvious cases), but rather, you are particular about your car (like I am).

I settled for the 5 yr/120 km warranty. That was the best I could do.

As far as the wiring harness goes, they wont touch it until the light(*) burn out again. The service manager wont make a decision to replace it, even based on the past. Basically he has no balls. Its very annoying.

I absolutley love the car. It has been a pain in the ***. But mostly because the dealership is making it difficult. I find it very annoying that if a light bulb goes out you have to take it there for them to confirm its burnt. Then they have to order the bulb because they never have one in stock. (just as an example)

I am hoping these problems have come to an end. And if not I have lots of warranty.

The regional service manager had considered buying the vehicle back. But after the meeting he knew that I still loved the car. Apparently he felt this was the best solution. I have to admit it would have been sad turning the keys in.
