A/C on 2005 GXP
Hello All, need to know if anyone else has experienced this problem. In the past three weeks the freon has blown out of my A/C system. It seems the compressor is engaged even with the A/C off. Been in and out of the dealer for this problem and is in there right now. So far they have replaced- the condensor, the compressor and the A/C computer :( Anyone else had this happen?

Sorry to hear about your A/C Dawg. Mine works great and most here are trouble free with theirs. I would say A/C wise You got a "Monday Car". Hope it works as well as most here now that the dealer has changed out most of the parts.

If you have the digital HVAC system, unless you physically hit the A/C button and watching the display say “A/C OFF”, it is on. The system automatically senses humidity and dewpoint levels and then uses the A/C system to dry the air accordingly to a proper humidity level.
If you have the old school *****, you have to have it (the directional ****) out of an A/C mode for it to be off. The A/C modes are typically on the left side of the **** selections and are noted by the pictograms being in a light blue or even marked as A/C. The non-A/C modes are on the right side of the **** selections, and in white.
It should be noted that any defroster/defogger mode also engages the A/C system.
I actually had this happen to me this morning when dropping my Son off at Grandma’*. I walked back out to the car, noticed my A/C compressor was cycling, and thought to myself WTF! I took it out of defroster mode (bi-level) after the rain yesterday, so my compressor shouldn’t be engaging like it was. Low and behold when I got in the car, the display did not say “A/C OFF” like I normally have it up in the upper right corner of the display. So hitting the A/C button until it said this, turned it off.

As to why your R-134a is being lost (Freon hasn’t been used since the mid 90’*), is due to a leak somewhere in the system. A trained technician that has the tools to detect system leaks will need to be brought in to find it. It’* not like a coolant leak or oil leak or something where it’* easily visible.

Wow thank you for the post. I got my car back on Tuesday and so far no problems. The leak was actually built up pressure that was being released from the rear of the compressor. I guess there is a relief valve there so the system doesn't blow. I have the digital system and when I push the temp **** for the driver'* side the system says it is off. Problem was the A/C clutch was still engaged and buidling pressure. The dealer changed the condensor again and that seems to ahve fixed the problem for now. Even GM says they have never seen this problem before. I will keep you posted and thank you again for the reply.

Well as of Saturday at about 11:00, the A/C blew again. Same problem, started the car with the A/C off (I visually checked the digital read out out said off) and the compressor was engaged and blew out the relief valve again I can't believe this, I got the car i finally wanted and they can't fix it :? Once again any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear Your still having problems Dawg, been on an extended vacation. Ya my license is MIA till Oct.It sounds like your compressor is just plain stuck on and blowing the relief valve. Mr.GoodWretch fixed the effect of the problem but not the problem. I had quite a few problems with mine new a little over a year ago and got really discouraged about all the time I had to spend at the Dealer. But they finally got it all worked out and things have been working well.

Well Venom, It wokred fine from Tuesday until Saturday. Then for some reason on start up and once the power (Ignition switch) was turned, the damn compressor was powered on even though the system is off. Very frustrating for me. I will keep you posted, taking it back tomorrow.
