Default My GXP may have bitten the dust...

My wife was involved in a terrible accident yesterday with our '05 Bonneville GXP. She was at a stop light which was on the back side of an intersection with a railroad trestle. The light turned green, she went under the trestle, and a Ford F150 doing at least 45 MPH T-boned her on the driver'* side as she emerged from under the trestle after he ran a red light.

Most of the impact centered from the front wheel back to the beginning of the front door. The side view mirror was sheared off, but we were able to open the driver'* side door. None of the air bags went off, but the car was pushed sideways about 20 feet.

They took my wife to the hospital after putting her on a back board as a precaution. The X-rays didn't show anything fractured or broken, and they released my wife 3 hours later. She is sore, but doing fine.

I'll have to wait and see what the insurance adjuster says about the car. But, one bad thing I noticed was that the roof was buckled just above the driver'* side rear door. I've always heard that is a sign of major uni-body damage.

If the car is totalled, my wife wants to replace the Bonneville with a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8. Can't complain about that! I'll keep eveyone here posted on what happens.

Seems to be the weekend of the T-bone, this may be our first GXP here to bite the dust like that!

Good thing your wife is ok. Got any pics of the damage?

Thank you for your concern and kind comments. My wife is going to the wrecking yard today to take some pictures. I'll post them as soon as I get them from her. The main reason we bought the Bonneville in the first place was to replace our totalled '04 GTO, which was totaled almost exactly a year ago. My wife wanted something larger with side-impact air bags, and the GXP fit the bill (I wanted something with some performance after having the GTO). The Bonneville held up well in the accident, and the structural integrity of the passenger compartment seems to be excellent. Considering she was hit by an F-150 going about 45 MPH, I think the Bonneville held up real well.

The guy who hit her was 46 years old. He says he has insurance (GMAC), and seemed genuinely sorry about causing the accident. There were at least 2 witnesses that colloborated my wife'* account of the truck running the red light. He had his 12 year old daughter with him when the accident happened. Neither of them were hurt. He was trying to get his daughter home in time for her ball game. Maybe he thought it was was worth running a red light and almost killing someone for that. He didn't even hit the brakes before he hit my wife, and there were no skid marks.

I know we complain about the mileage that our GXP'* get, but to me it'* worth the price to be able to drive a large, safe car that holds up well in an accident. The extra $ spent in gas seems paltry compared to your life being saved when some irresponsible idiot almost kills you. Think about that next time at the pump while your filling up. I know that I do now, especially when I'm driving my '04 Dakota 4X4.

I'll keep you all posted on what transpires.

I am glad nobody was hurt. I am surprised that the driverside SIDE-airbag did not at least go off especially id the force was enough to buckle the roof. I guess they can really tell when they need and dont need to go off.

Sorry to hear this. This was definitely a bad weekend for BC, but glad the Bonne took the brunt of the impact for your wife. Please keep us informed on what happens.
