Default Possible head gasket.... Worth it?

Here'* the story. My dad has a '98 Cadillac Seville STS and we're thinking the head gasket is bad. (Burnt coolant pouring out of the exhaust..) Now I was talking to Marty'* (OlBlueEyesBonne) brother, and he told me that they are known for weak head bolts, thus when they go to replace the gaskets, the head bolts are known to snap, rendering the motor useless. He also told me that they are very common for warping and cracked blocks. My question is, do you think it would be worth replacing the head gaskets or try to find another motor for it? I would hate to see him take it in and have to pay for work if there'* the chance that he will need to replace the motor anyway. Thanks for any help up front.

Best way to get info on that would be to join a Caddy forum.... I know Jim W and possibly Custom 88 (and a few others) are members on a big Caddy forum... (I joined awhile back myself, but don't remember my SN or password)..... in fact I can't even remember the name of the forum.

Head Bolts are a Definate problem. And a common one. There is a kit out by GM to repair snapped/ popped (Edit... Should have said snapped on removal though they have popped as well with severe overheating)headbolts so the engine isnt necessarily useless but I imagine a huge pain in the *** and a big maybe. I have read alot about warpage problems as well when head gaskets go so that is something else to consider.

Thats what happened to this caddy...http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...798&highlight=

Head gaskets were replaced and the shop did not re-thread the block with time serts causing the bolts to pull loose and the head gaskets to leak again. We sold him a Jasper engine do to the large amount of intermixing going on in his crank case.
