PONTIAC BONNEVILLE GXP HITS THE STREETS IN 2004
DETROIT - The Pontiac Division of General Motors today announced it is taking its popular Bonneville GXP show car from the concept stage to production in early 2004. The Bonneville GXP turned heads at this year'* Specialty Equipment Marketer Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas. The SEMA show car and a similar version at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year, have the same sleek lines and high-performance as the car consumers will be able buy in a little more than one year from now.
"The public and automotive reporters alike gave this car such a 'thumbs up' that we put it on the development fast track and are very excited that it will go on sale early in 2004," said Lynn Myers, general manager for Pontiac-GMC Division. Myers says she expects this special Bonneville to deliver a bold, exciting alternative to traditional luxury.
The Bonneville GXP show car is just one member of Pontiac'* complete "family" of high performance show cars all grouped under the GXP badge. These show vehicles were designed to give drivers a "total performance" package, striking a balance between pure power, chassis capabilities and driver-oriented features. The Bonneville GXP that goes into production will have a high-output engine, unique exhaust components and high-performance brakes.
The Bonneville GXP show car is basically what consumers will see on the roads in the first quarter of 2004. With its powerful 4.4-liter Quad Cam 32-valve V8 engine, the production version will pump out 285 horsepower and deliver performance that any driving enthusiast can appreciate. In comparison, the 2003 Bonneville SSEi has 240 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The V8 in the forthcoming GXP- edition Bonneville will be mated to GM'* proven Hydra-Matic 4T80-E automatic transmission with a floor-mounted shifter. A high-performance suspension system provides a compliant ride without diminishing the fun-to-drive handling characteristics. The result is a performance package that will satisfy drivers who seek driving fun in a full-size car.
APPEARANCE
The 2004 Bonneville GXP sports a clean, seamless appearance with an understated look of performance. A unique GXP grille, front and rear fascia, exhaust tips, new smoked-appearance headlights, redesigned taillamps, new rear appliqué, and repositioned all-new projected beam fog lamps round out the sporty appearance of this car. The exterior color palette will include 10 colors; two will be premium tri-coat colors.
On the inside, a brushed aluminum shifter, lock *****, ignition cylinder and door handles give the car a stylish "European" look. The seats will be leather appointed with suede inserts to provide a rich and seat securing feeling during handling maneuvers. Features rounding out the Bonneville GXP include a unique instrument panel treatment; interior trim bezels will be made of a carbon fiber-look material. Exterior badging designates the Bonneville as a member of "GXP Performance Series."
PERFORMANCE
In addition to its 4.4-liter Quad Cam 32-valve V8 engine, the production version gets a boost from performance-tuned suspension components, GXP-specific five-spoke aluminum wheels and P235/50R 18-inch W-rated tires. The Bonneville GXP also has a lowered ride height for a strong wheel-to-body relationship, which results in bold handling characteristics. Like the SEMA version, the front and rear disc brakes in the production car will be oversized in diameter and high-performance in nature. They will have heat-resistant ceramic-coated calipers. The exhaust system [will be] specially tuned to maximize the performance and sound quality of the 4.4L V8 engine.

Its actually a detuned 4.6L putting out 275HP, the STS 4.6 puts out 300 HP...go figure, I guess we just have to mod the b'jesus out of it to get it up there with the BIGGEST boys...hehehe

"The gxp'* motor is the 275hp, 300tq cadillac motor, the one used in SLS'*, ESC'* and DHS'*. in cadillacs they all come with 3.11 gears vs STS'* (and the others) 3.71. even though the SLS has worse gears, it still tears off the line faster than a STS.
gxp has the sls'* torquey engine, and the 3.71'*, there shouldn't be any complaints about off the line torque! add the standard intake and exhaust and the top end should about equal a STS too, so GTP torque with STS topend........"

they first released a 4.4, then i saw it was 4.6, and lots of other cars are getting the 4.6, park avenue, possible the lesabre, monte ss, impalla ss (2006 i think) so it would make sense for it to be a 4.6. it nice there putting good exhaust/brakes/suspension on there, but id rather it made 285hp with crappy exhaust, so a upgrade would give a good boost!

I'm happy with my 01 ssei though, buy the time the GXP is released my 3.8SC will be faster!!! After seeing the interior pics, I'm suprised that there really isn't ANY re-design, other than the trim. Looks pretty much like my 01, EXCEPT, I don't see a boost gauge in there?

ill bet a full intake and exhaust work would give the 275 equal if not a little more topend than the sts, with 3.71'* burnouts shouldn't be a problem. so for a year the gxp will be quicker, than the sts gets vvt, rwd and a 5speed auto. maybe they'll add vvt to the gxp someday, but the vvt now is only for the RWD northstar.
only reason id get a ETC or STS over a ESC or SLS is because they look better, better handling, usually more features and the perforated seats. esc'* look about the same though, but they have that stupid 108mph governor, not the 150
