I checked with the pontiac dealer and oddly, they say it'* not supposed to have a hose

Something fishy going on, I wish I could get to the bottom of it. Here is the fax they sent.

My dealer'* 40 miles away 'cause well, I Live 40 miles from everything. I think you got caught in the middle Frank. They are so tight lipped about production numbers and models between the 2 years of GXP production. Even the parts stores are just coming to database speed with alot of parts so check to make sure they are the right ones when getting filters, brake parts etc. I dont think a Dealer would have an answer other than what you have. My best guess, the nipple and the hose were a design change close to going into the 2005 models. And those changes are really few. They are basically the same car part for part. So maybe you got the airbox with a nipple but what ever that hose connects to hadn't hit th factory yet from the supplier. I will try to take the time to crawl under mine and see just where it goes, I am really curious now that Christy has posted she has both. A weird Bonne comedy of errors here. I know your scratching your head more than laffing but hey, you may have a factory freak with a rarity.

That runs to your Secondary A.I.R. pump which is down behind the front driving light.

The concept of the Secondary A.I.R. system is to inject fresh air into the intake stream to help get the PCM into Closed Loop operation quicker. On our Bonneville'*, The A.I.R. pump only runs for when the coolant temps are between 41* - 176* AND the IAT is >41*. It then runs until the PCM is in closed loop.

Afterwords, it'* just dead weight being carried around and has no bearing on performance or driveability, so it being disconnected won't hurt you at all. Matter of fact, I don't have mine hooked up with my CAI...

The only thing that I'd be concerned about is that that opening is after the filter, so you're getting unfiltered air in.

First of all, I don't know how many years my dealership parts department has said that the drawings they have are somewhat generic and don't necessarily show all the detail for a specific car. This has proven to be the case many times while we've searched for items (and successfully found them later). For this reason alone, I'd be very skeptical of what the dealer says simply because there is a place for it to attach. IIRC, my car has the secondary AIR pump, which I believe is where this hose connects.

I'll look at mine in the morning and post again later in the day. I've got the '04 as well. I think the dealer is leading you astray.

I had a look at my car today and it also has that hose. My car was purchased as a dealer demo and as such had never been owned or registered so I know that there haven't been any mods. What your dealer is saying just doesn't make sense.

Unfortunately I didn't have time today, but my plan was to visit the parts department and ask them to see if there was more than one part number for that top cover. This would confirm that:

A) The picture is of generic nature and isn't a complete depiction.
B) That GM didn't for some reason have a different configuration in some GXP'*.

I will try to do this tomorrow, but if there'* only one part number shown for item #4 of your exploded diagram (which I suspect will be the case), you're missing that hose. You would have to look under the car to see if someone has removed the secondary AIR pump (which may be why the hose is gone).

I find it very hard to believe GM would just leave an open, uncovered port there for no apparent reason when every other GXP owner seems to have a hose attached.

See my post above all yours. I confirmed that it was a secondary A.I.R. pump feed into the airbox and explained what and when the system operates. The pump itself is located sorta behind the drivers side fog light. GM didn't leave it undone. It looks like the car was probably serviced for some particular reason before you someway, somehow, and it was removed. What I would suggest is you give the dealer your VIN# (last 8 digits should suffice) and they can tell you exactly what work has been done on the car anytime it has been in contact with a GM dealership. I'd look for something in that first 2,000 miles before you bought it. I bet the pump, or something in that corner was was serviced, and whoever serviced it, forgot to put the hose back in. Or possibly the cheap plastic retaining clip that is used to secure it to that nozzle, wasn't attached securely and it came off from heat and vibration (mine did once when I was quick to snap it back onto the stock airbox and). Removal of the lower air dam assembly might find resting down there if you've never removed that air damn assembly at all. But that would strike me as odd, as there is a plastic ring retaining clip that attaches nearby to the engine (water pump assembly I believe) to keep the tube upright upon removal from the airbox so you don't lose it.

The pictures posted above are actually correct and are identical to what I have in GM Service Information.
