White06 where is the antenna mounted on your Mom'* Benz ? on the outside of the vehicle or on the dash ?

If it is on the outside its probably weather beaten and needs replacing, if its on the dash then the factory tint is probably interfering with the signal.

As far as the merger of programing goes I've been told by XM and Sirius reps, that the within the next 2 years there will be combined programing available in the US.

Here in Canada its farther away than that, sometime within the next 3-5 years.

Neither rep would go into details about why that is.

Dutch

This is the document sent to me which suggests there will be no change for Canada.

Dear/ Bonjour Darcy

XM Satellite Radio Inc. and Sirius Satellite Radio in the United States have announced their intention to merge subject to U.*.
shareholder and government approval. Many of you have asked us, "What does this mean for subscribers to XM Radio in Canada?"

There will be no change in the service we deliver to our Canadian Subscribers.

This U.*. development has no immediate implications for Canadian subscribers. XM Canada is an independent Canadian owned company that holds the exclusive license to provide XM satellite radio services in Canada. We remain committed to providing you with the finest digital audio entertainment and information services in the country.

The stated intent of our XM U.*. partner and Sirius is to maintain two separate satellite delivery systems which will ensure that your XM radio will continue to operate as it does today for the foreseeable future. There will be no disruption or change to the availability of your XM service as we continue to deliver the best in commercial free music, comedy, talk, news, and sport - including coverage of the NHL, and exclusive coverage of MLB (Major League Baseball) and the PGA (Professional Golf Association).

Future Communications

We will continue to provide you with full information about XM Canada through our existing communication channels including our monthly e-mail newsletter, XM Signal, and our website www.xmradio.ca .

Thank you for choosing XM Canada.

Sincerely,

Stephen Tapp
President and COO

Ya I know about the letters to customers, the reps mentioned them.

For now I guess they are trying to keep their customers in the dark until they see how legal / business issues play out.

Who knows they may decide to keep running it as two seperate companys to keep the market cornered.

Just passing along info I was told at my store, by the reps directly.

Regards,
Dutch

I've owned both and consider myself to be a neutral party, since I really like both of them. They each have their respective strength.

XM:
Rock (Classic, Modern and everything in between)
Comedy (Opie and Anthony are freaking hilarious)

Sirius:
Their rock stations aren't BAD, but I prefer the XM stations...
Talk Radio (NPR, things like that..)
Their electronica stations rule and are 100x better than XMs

I had XM on the factory radio, but the sound quality sucked so I dropped it. The high-end was swishy and distorted. My friend has XM on factory radio on his 05 TL. Sounds better than mine, but it'* still far inferior to FM. I might be picky about sound quality, but I'm just looking for the same sound quality available back in the mid-eighties with an aftermarket stereo.

I've only heard the above 2 XM applications, so possibly it is some sort of problem specific to the vehicles, although I suspect not.
