Factory MP3 player working in Bonneville
I have been working on this project for a little while, mainly collecting radios and parts to get this all done.
But today, I have succesfully made a Pontiac MP3 player ( the ones that came in the Grand Am, Sunfire, Aztek, Montana ) work in my 2003 SSEi.
All the functions seem to work fine, the steering wheel controls, hooked up to the monsoon amp with no problems, XM works, OnStar works. The only thing I noticed is the chimes come out a little different. Maybe the radio I used ( was a 2003 model - maybe later models smoothed out the chimes and the activation of the amp ) is the problem. I mean the chimes are there, but you get a thumping sound sometimes from like the amp being turned on and off. Not sure if its the radio or not. It was not a monsoon MP3 player so that might have something to do with it. I will hopefully be getting a Monsoon MP3 player soon and will see if that unit fairs better with these chimes.
I will have some pictures up later as well. Its a somewhat tedious conversion, but I think it will worth it in the long run. I really don't want to have to go to aftermarket to play MP3'*. So I decided to see if I could get this working. And it does work.
More details to follow, as I have been working on it most of the night and into the morning. So, tired as all heck now but wanted to pop up a post and see if there was any interest in this type of conversion among the members here.

Heh, that'* interesting, I've always known that there was a MP3 version of GM'* double din CD player, but I never thought of it as compatible with the Bonneville... Think you could do a write-up? I'm sure there are some people out there (me included) that would like to know...

GREAT JOB ! ! !
I suspect the compatability issue has been more about the harnesses and less about the electronics/hardware. Ddalder was able to get a factory Nav unit to work so it is not a surprise to hear what you have done. I don't want to minimize the accomplishment however. I have been working on my own customization and have found many issues to deal with, so I know this is a HUGE accomplishment!
CONGRATULATIONS ! ! !
