HELP!!! Something happened to my stock power antenna awhile ago and it would whine but not go down, it was stuck in the "up " position. We didnt really thing much of it until yesterday, when I was driving for about 40 minutes, and it wouldnt stop making noise. Can someone tell me how to bypass/turn off the power part and just leave the antenna, or do I need to buy a whole new one from the dealer. Please help, the noise is enough to make anyone that rides with me go nuts!

Yeah Mine is doing that also, to a degree. once it is up it stays up until you pushed it down. and it will only go up about two thirds of the way and no further. it is really starting to tick me off. Any help?

i know this happend to me cuz i went through the car wash with mine up, OOPS! u can buy em at a dealership for like 15-20 bucks, which im gonna do soon... gl anyways

As you can see, the antenna is kinda spendy. You may want to consider a wrecker on this one. I know the antenna from a Buick Lesabre is slightly different due to the quarter panel profile, but it might be the same antenna, and you could re-use your bracket and bezel. Not sure. The Rat may be able to confirm this. It might open up some more options for you at the wrecker. 92-99 all used the same antenna.

These are somewhat user-serviceable. If you remove it, it'* actually pretty easy to disassemble. These antennas might just need a little TLC. Josh, we can work on yours saturday if you want.

A few months ago I disconnected the power connector to the one on my '92 because it sometimes wouldn't go all the way up or all the way down. In my case, the problem is inside the mast, and exterior cleaning of the mast didn't help.

When I called the local dealership, they recommended purchasing the whole unit because they said that if you just buy the mast, they're difficult to disassemble and install, and they don't accept returns because people mess them up trying to do it themselves. The dealer prices were too steep for me...

If anyone has a mast or entire antenna for sale, I'm interested.

i looked at it before, and there are a bunch of different wires going into it. Is there a way I could find the correct wire and just cut, short or ground it to do something to disable the "power" part of the antenna and still let my receiver use it??? My antenna is stuck in the "up" position, so it wouldnt bother me if it just stayed like that, as long as i dont have to spend money on the stupid thing (saving $$$ for performance). Would a multimeter help me out at all? I have some expierience with DC wiring and antenna stuff.

i peeled my carpet back the other day to take a look, and found the little black box, except it has two plugs going into it, one is grey and the other is black. They look like they were meant to be removed (what looks like a release button on the side) but I could not either of the little buggers to come out! It seemed like they should just pop right out, so I didnt put too much pressure on them. Can anyone get theirs to come out easily, or am I the only one with this problem?

If the antenna motor is running, the stereo is On and you haven't unplugged anything, the motor should be trying to push the antenna up anyway. If you can get any kind of a grip on the end of the antenna shaft, it should come upwards, if you're helping by tugging on the thing.

If it still won't move, it may be that the flexible core is tangled around the hub and can't unwind itself. If that'* the case, surgery will be needed.

Actually it'* easy to get the antenna out of the car; opening up the antenna itself to service the motor is a little trickier.
