Default PAC SWI-X installation directions and pics

finally got around to ordering it... and it put me $30 in the hole...but thats another story..

i just wanted to let everyone know how easy this is...

what is it: PAC (brand name) SWI-X (model name)

what it does: makes your steering wheel controls work with an aftermarket remote controlled deck

installation time: 30 minutes

tools needed: 9/32 socket for taking off radio screws, and center console screws
maybe a wire stripper

THESE DIRECTONS ARE SPECIFIC TO 1987-1999 BONNEVILLES WITH STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS

step 1. pull off dash trim
step 2. take out screws that hold in radio
step 3. disconnect radio.
step 4. connect black wire on SWI-X to the ground
step 5. connect red wire on SWI-X to ACC power
step 6. connect green wire on SWI-x to light green wire on wiring harness (position 13)
step 7. press and hold button on SWI-X and then turn on ignition, then release the button
step 8. do nothing for 3 seconds, then press the button just ONE time
step 9. turn off igition
step 10. turn on ignition, led will flash once
step 11. press and hold button, left led will light, then release button
step 12. press a button on the steering wheel, start with 1 and work clockwise. led will light after pressing button
step 13. hold remote in front of sensor on SWI-X and press corisponding button
step 14. do all other buttons in the same fashion
step 15. wait 7 seconds, and led'* will flash
step 16. TEST IT
step 17. find mounting spot for SWI-X
step 18. pull up console and put infared led coming out of the shifter (in pics)
step 19. reinstall everything

the directions that come with it are fail proof, and its working GREAT for me... wish i would have got it sooner

if you have questions ask me

didnt take pics during install, but here are some after

Steering wheel controls were cool the 2 weeks I had them before I installed my aftermarket hu. I saw this kit but never knew of anybody trying it out. I thought the kit was like 60 bucks? Where did you find it for 30?

One thing you need is not just a deck with remote capability, but the actual remote. My RF MP3 headunit has an option for a remote, but i would need to get ahold of an RF remote to program it.

Does it keep programming if the battery is disconnected?

what would u rate the level of hardness 1-10 10 being hardest. cuz im really looking into getting one cuz i miss my controls.
it works on just about all newer cd players with remotes? what did u use for power and ground? did u mean power and ground of the cd player? so only on wire to connect to the cd players wire harness?

the whole reason i posted this was to show how easy it was...

the unit comes with tons of documentary on how to install... but you only need minimal parts of it..... it just that its got such a wide range of uses..

if you can wire up your cd player, this is twice as easy... only 3 wires!!

yeah, i pulled the power and ground from the cd player

yes it works with almost all remote cd players, and there is a list of players that dont work with it...
