hi every one so it has been determined that my wife loves the 88sse so much that i will have a new floor pan welded on for her as she nearly killed me in an argument over who drives what car.. she won she gets the 88 sse and i will get the 95 se for my audio competition car.... so i need some advice..

i had nice plans for the 88 but nuff said.. so anyway the trunk opening on the 95 se is not open or wide enough for me to fit the box i built for my 88 so i took measurments and its just not wide enough for a big enough box to house my 2 15'' L7'* so i thought i should completely remove my back seat and mount the subs on a custom board making my whole 18 cubic feet trunk the sub enclosure. .

would the subs sound better in the trunk or on a board replacing the back seat..

rember people i want to crush the competition... i will be upgrading to solo x 18'' sub'* but this is what i got for now.... need all experience thats out there..

If your going all out, big box, slot vented with an insanelly high tuning frequency (danger to subs ofcourse, but I guess if you want to keep it safe, don't have the port tuned to any higher than say 43-45 hz).

If you want to retain just a bit of sound quality, a bit smaller box, tuning frequency no higher than 36-38 hz.

both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Personally, good luck ever sealing the trunk enough to use it as a box.

i would be framining the trunk out with 1/4 mdf wood and sealing it completley so when you open the trunk you would see a huge box in the shape of the trunk. (if i go this way)...

If your trying to maximize air space, I highly recommend fiberglass.

hmmmm, are the subs designed for free-air use? once you get so big with a box, it will sound like crap and just not work out at all. I removed the back seat from my '89 and hooked up a couple Rockford Fosgate HE2 12" subs on a board I mounted to the wall there..... It sounded like crap.

Yes, 15" subs will move more air, but I am not sure if they will move enough to properly use THAT much space.

also, 1/4" MDF is not nearly strong enough to use as a box, and will be completly ripped apart. I would suggest 3/4" minimum for serious pounding and less flex from the box.

Yeah IMO build a box..

for reasons stated above. Your not going to move that amount of air. And Do not go Glass yes it is good for finishing but use MDF. running what you want and doing with you want you will forever be redoing a glass box.

When the rest of my audio equipment gets here I will be firing 2 12'* into the rear of the back seat but they will be boxed and ported as well as the third firing into the trunk. I'm working on a box design now. I am going to maximize the trunk space and when Im done i will only have lost a little more then the rear deck. if I explained that right.

Rebuild your box to fit.

Glass boxes don't take forever. :?:

In fact, it has been proven that glass boxes are lighter, and last longer than MDF. Plus, I have heard (now this is just hearsay unless someone can provide test data) that the resonant frequency of MDF boxes is much worse than glass boxes.

Downside- glass box will be much more expensive. Cooler, yes, but much more expensive.

I'd like to see anyone on here try to build an mdf box to fit the countours of your trunk, using 95% of the available airspace

Give me a Massive DMX15 and 2 3000.1'* and I can shred a Glass box in ummmmm about 2 weeks. They don't last and there not Lighter. You still need wood to make a glass box. and they will not withstand the pounding a properly built MDF box will.

Trust me on this pushing the number he wants to push glass is not the way to go.
