Default What amp(*) to use?

I am still slowly investing in my ultimate sound system for my GA and was wondering if you guys could help me pick out the necessary amps for my car.

Here'* what I'll be running:

2 sets of Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5" Component Speakers
3 12" Infinity Kappa Perfect DVQ Subwoofers with an RMS of 400W @ 4 ohms.

It would be nice if Infinity could get the job done, but it seems that their amps aren't of the highest quality, but I don't fully know. It would also be awesome to get away with only two killer amps for this system, but understand if I inevitably have to buy more.

Thanks Guys!

Running three 4 ohm subs (1.33 ohms total in parallel) on one amp may be a problem unless you get an amp that is 1 ohm stable. Are you running rear speakers? You can buy a 2 channel amp for your components. If you have front AND rear speakers, you can still run them off a 2 chanel amp, youll just lose your fader control. Theres no eason why you would need more than 2 amps, provided your sub amp can put out the power.

2 amps could do that job easily.

clarify your sub though. i believe previous reply was based off of single voice coil subs. I am reading them to be a dvc sub though. if they are dvc...then you could wire each sub in series, then parallel them together to attain 2.6666 load. MANY amps out there can run 2 ohm bridged.

i think what you need to let us know mainly is....#1..how much you want to spend...

agreed with the users above, i would get the information for these following questions

1) what ohm load will your subs be

2) how much truck space do you have to work with

3) being you are running infinity subs im assuming you want to go with a sq setup?

Some nice sq amps to take a look at would be JL audio, arc audio, and zapco just to name a few. If you need any more help just let us know.

The Subwoofers with be Infinity Kappa Perfect 12" DVQ, which in all actuality should be called DVC instead of Q. They have an RMS of 400W and are 4 ohm.

I will be getting custom fiber glass work for my front doors to replace the stock 4 X 6 plate speakers and install Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5" Component speakers. Instead of putting 6 X 9s in the rear window, I will be installing another pair of 6.5" components.

I don't know how much relevance this holds, but I will be essentially trying to make my car have 6.3 surround sound. I already have a pair of 4" Infinity Kappa speakers to make one of them a center channel speaker to go about my vents. That will also take custom fiber glass work. I imagine that that 4"ers will be fine just hooked up to the deck.

As far as price is concerned, I was hoping to get away with spending absolutely no more than $800 combined on all of my amps. Hopefully that'll give you guys a good idea as to what to suggest. Oh, and one other thing. If you have any suggestions whatsoever about how to put together a top of the line killer system for my '94 Grand Am GT, I'm completely open for suggestions. The only requirement(*) being that I plan on sticking with Infinity Kappa, or Kappa Perfect Stuff for all subs and speakers, and I'm wanting to make it 6.1 surround sound capable.

Thank You for all of your help and suggestions guys. I really appreciate it.

Can i ask why you are stuck on infinity products? Guess it'* my curiousity here. But, there are products out there that surpass infinity 2 fold easily for price range.

That being said, Your subs are DVC 4 ohm subs...which in reailty means if they were wired in series they would be a 8 ohm sub or a 2 ohm sub after being wired parallel to itself. So, again, if you were series, then parallel between the subs, you get a 2.666 ohm load on amp. if they are wired in parallel, then parallel to each other....well, 1/2 ohm total...so, thats not good. very few amps are capable of that load in reasonable price range of good quality. So, i would wired them up to equal a 2 ohm load on amp.

Typically i wouldn't suggest a comp set for rear fill, but you have your goals set on a surround setup evidently.

Easily have a set of amps that can handle what you need for under 800. have you shopped around locally to hear between brands? i would suggest a nice d class sub amp...one capable of 1000 rms minimum into 2 ohm load. i don't even know where to begin with brand though. i am a budget builder...some may not like my ideas....haha
