Default reasons for fuse blowing?

my system has been out of my car for about two weeks. i took the car in because my brake light was coming on and found out the master cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced, fine.

i pulled the system out when it was at the shop and replaced all the speaker wire with 12 gauge stinger HPM Twisted SWX while it was out. today i go to put it back in, hook up the rca'* to the amp, then the remote lead, then the power lead from the battery and finally the ground wire. i turn on the car and flip the switch i have on the remote wire, the led in the amp lights up and then dies. i pop the hood and sure enough my 60 amp inline fuse is blown.

I have 2 JL 10W0'* being powered by an alpine MRP-350 mono amplifier being fed by a 4gauge scosche EFX wiring kit (yea overkill i know). im wondering what causes fuses to blow and if it is fairly common or not. should i just go to autozone and buy another fuse or is there something wrong that needs to be checked out? this fuse has been under the hood (firmly fastened down) for around 4 months. do these things just die from wear and tear?

I would assume that you shorted out something by not connection the ground to the amp.
that would be the only thing that would cause a 60 amp fuse to blow on your power wire.
